Do not get the 3" exhaust, it is not neccessary at 8 pounds of boost. Get 2.5".

The size of the exhaust system post-turbo in a turbo car largely affects the spool characteristics of the turbo .

Pressure differential drives the turbine; you want high pressure before the turbine and as little as possible behind the turbine to get it to spool quickly. The greater the difference, the faster the spool. Reducing pressure behind the turbo will increase this differential, as will increasing pressure before the turbo. With that in mind, raising the pre-turbine pressure too high has its issues. See these:

Using 3" exhaust plumbing behind the turbo is good for spool, though you likely won't net any more power than you would over a 2.5" as such low boost levels.

IMO, I'd get the 3".

Good reads, I still would save a few bucks and get the smaller 2.5", how much faster is 8psi going to come? It already arrives at like 2200rpm, or as soon as you punch it for that matter.

EDIT: On ebay, there really isn't a price diff between 2.5-3"(So much for saving on the smaller pipe)

But more-so, the question to the OP is would you ever want more boost in the future(far or near)?

to get more boost, i' have to build the motor...well to do it safely that is. I know boost is addictive but i doubt i'lll build the motor since i dont really know how to do it by myself. which will make it spool quicker? 2.5" or 3"?

I'm not sure if its different when your building a 420a-turbo. But this thread in the FAQ section says not to add a fuel cut defender to prevent fuel cut...

http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/frequently-answered-dsm-questions/186971-what-fuel-cut.html

It is different when boosting a 420a. 96+ 420a ECU's will cut fuel when it sees more than 0psi, this obviously makes any amount of boost impossible without a means of preventing the ECU from seeing this boost.

The only other real option is leaving the factory ECU behind and using MegaSquirt.

thats what i thought. i've been looking at the noname exhausts and in most cases the 3" is cheaper...so i'lll probably go with that.

I'm in the same boat as you.

I think im going to take my exhaust to a shop and have them run it under the rear crossmember for straighter flow and looks.

Then hopefully by spring break I can start my turbo build.

Still waiting to get a few things:)

And are you going to dump ## wastegate? or route it to the exhaust? I dont know which one to do
