New to the Forums and had a quick question on parts.
Before hand I'll start by saying I have a 1998 Eclipse RS (420A). I got it about 2 weeks ago and have done some work to it already.
List of Things Done:
New Battery
Bosch Iridium Plugs
New Plug Wires
New Air Filter
New Fuel Filter (yet to be installed)
New Radiator
New Upper Hose
New Thermostat and Gasket
Flushed and Added New Coolant
Added Seafoam on First Fill Up
New Bumper (being delivered Friday)

I am looking to install new I/H/E.
I had seen on the forums to look on EBay. Is this header a good one/worth the price? [ame=http://www.ebay.com/itm/170723453410?redirect=mobile]Eclipse Talon 1g 2 0 DOHC Non Turbo Stainless Exhaust Chrome Header Gasket O2 | eBay[/ame]

Any suggestions for new I/H/E?

That will not work for you. That is for a 1g non turbo 4g63 car. You need one for the 420a 2g.

"edit"
Now that I look at the posting it says it fits the 2g 420a. Personally I would find one where the title and the cars it fits match.

Wow, I didn't even read that LOL. I typed in my year, make and model and it showed up so I assumed it was a correct part. I guess that's what I get for assuming and not reading the title.

*Edit*
Ok so I guess that's why it popped up. I'll look for one with my info in the title. I guess this could be turned into an I/H/E suggestion thread then since I'm going to scrap the idea to get that one. Was looking to get a 4-2-1.

I would word the search 98 eclipse n/t header 420a and see what pops up. Just read the description good because sometimes sellers won't know the difference and list the same part for both.

Thanks.

I've seen it be said that name brand doesn't matter for I/H/E. True statement or is it worth paying for name brand?

For intake pipes it may not matter that much. Now for manifolds and exhaust systems I stay stick with name brands because of the better quality you will get, i.e. Welds, fitment, metals, sound etc. Only eBay brand I would trust that is if they are even still an eBay company is Megan Racing.

I think it's all a matter of opinion. If you plan to keep it n/a then you could get the name brand if you like. If you plan on going to a turbo later , then there is no reason for the names brands. The main thing to look out for is quality. The cheap ones have been known to crack. I beleve the Megan ones are descent and not that bad of a price.

Ok thanks. I'll look into the Megan Racing stuff. And other name brand H/E

Thanks. I've seen the debates over putting a turbo on the RS and GS. So my question is, is it worth it? I've thought to myself should I just sell the RS and look for a GST or GSX? So I looked for a GST or GSX for sell on craigslist and I guess everyone that has a GST or GSX wants to keep them because I haven't seen any for sell. The few I have seen already have all the mods done and I would want to buy one near stock and do it all myself.

I've been running an obx cold air intake, intake/exhaust manifold and exhaust for 2 years on my 10.5 compression motor. No cranks or issues. I'm going back to a stock ported intake manifold tho. Other then that it's good, but Megan header is good too. Just research the brand you find before buying them. Most eBay exhaust systems will be ok. Like stated find a decent manifold tho. Personally the obx cold air intake is good but obviously the aem are proven to flow better but I couldn't spend the money.

Money wise yes buy a gst or gsx because it's easier to fix up rather then putting a turbo on a 420a. Speaking from experience here. It cost ALOT to go turbo.

Thanks for the info. I know the turbo would be expensive that's what has deterred me from it the most. I went ahead and posted my RS for sale on craigslist but haven't gotten any bites. Hopefully I'll get some and can look for a GST or GSX. If not I'll just have fun with it and do the mods I can and enjoy it's gas saving ability compared to my truck.

Beware that with a good driver, a GS-T will be faster around a road course. Less weight makes a huge difference.

A GSX will almost always be faster in a drag.

Worth $220? [ame=http://www.ebay.com/itm/390675002190?redirect=mobile]Pacesetter Exhaust Headers 70 1224 | eBay[/ame]

Also is there a benefit between 4-2-1 and 4-1? Thought I had seen somewhere that 4-2-1 is better that's why I've been looking for that.
Also thoughts on ones with flex pipe versus solid ones?

Personally I wouldn't pay 220 for that header.

Mitsubishi Eclipse Non Turbo Stainless OBX Header 95 99 | eBay

I've been running this one for a while with good results. There's other ones too but for the price it's hard to beat.

Thanks.
What's some of yalls experiences with the flex pipe like most have compared to a solid piece like in the ones I posted. For $80 the top one seems reasonable and I have a friend that welds so if the welds were bad he could fix it.
Thoughts?

There's no performance gain from a flexible piece to a solid one that I know of. I would save the extra money for other parts. You can find cold air intakes around a 100 bucks. Just my opinion but pacesetter is a good brand.

Yea I know there are cheaper ones than the pacesetter. The solid piece just seems more durable than the flex.

So, header in original post: Pros: 4-2-1, solid pieces, cheap(economically). Cons: Cheap(which may or may not effect quality).
Obx header: Pros: Good review from someone who has used it. Cons: Double the price of other, 4-1(wanting 4-2-1).

Sure did. Thanks to that guy ^
