I have a stock 98 GSX. I met some dude who wants to sell a stock 14b off a first gen, plus a Greddy BOV plus the adapter to fit my car for $200. Is that a good deal? The turbo itself is only $100. Is it a better idea to take that $100 and put it towards the price of a new or bigger turbo? Also, what do I have to do to swap in that turbo into my stock car? Something about a J-pipe?

What kind of cfm does a 14b flow vs a t28 and a t25?

All you would need would be a J pipe, oil return, oil feed and the proper gaskets correct? i would assume you can just bend the stock water lines to fit?
 
For $200 I would do it, like said above if the wheel sins and not shaft play, you could always sell it to someone else for that.
 
the stock t-25 has about 290 cfm vs. the 14B 400 cfm its a good upgrade for 2gens and i'm going to be doing the same thing as soon as i can find one

A) So another friend wants to give me a 14b exhaust housing (on the turbo) that has been completely ported out for free. He wants me to put that on the stock 14b intake housing that I can now get for only $80. What do you guys think about that idea?

B) I thought I heard of having to tap an oil gallery on the block when you put a 14b on a 2G... is that true? (I don't like the sounds of that mod...)

C) The same guy wants to sell me a FMIC and pipes off a 1G for $165. I'm sure the intercooler isn't top notch, but that isn't a problem for me. I need something cheap. My only concern is how well do you think it will fit going from a 1G to a 2G?

You would have to have the measurements of the FMIC since they are all different and a 1g didn't come stock with a FMIC. You might have to cut the bumper support.
 
Oh sorry I wasn't very clear about C! I'm not too worried about making the intercooler fit behind the bumper, I can weld brackets and cut the bumper, doesn't bother me much.

I was just wondering if the pipes run the same route on the 1G as the 2G? Hopefully I will get the 1G turbo at the same time, so that should help with the lower IC pipes huh?

Are you sure about the cfm flow on that 14b? I've read that the evo III 16g flows around 360-400 CFM so your statement about the 14b flowing 400 doesn't sound right. I would think that it flows more in the range of 320-340 cfm's.

I don't believe the pipes run the same way. The stock 2G T-25 has the that long J bend off of the turbo. The 1G 14B does not. You will need to do some/alot (i'm not exactly sure on how much) modification and fabrication to make it work, but its doable. I just have never done it myself.

Edit: Let me clarify further, if you are getting the 14b & the 1G intercooler setup, it may be easier than if you were adapting a 1G intercooler to a T-25 2G setup.

Big 16G and EVO III Big 16G flow 550cfm
Small 16G is 505cfm
14b is 405 cfm

What about the stock t25? Also, any other numbers you may have for any other possible turbo-swaps for our cars?
 
if your going from a t-25 to anything without supporting mods the biggest you could go would be a 16g. for $200 bucks if you get everything needed to install the 14b and it is in good condition, you could port it and make decent power, and feel a big difference over the t-25.
 
what supporting mods must you start with first? Like say someone put 3 diesel turbos on their stock 2G.... If they were going to do the supporting mods 1 by 1, what are the most important to start with/do/upgrade? I guess what are the biggest bottle necks on these cars when attempting to make big power?

I am not sure I understand your question. But I would say air flow.. into and out of the engine. You need larger exhaust and to increase and straighten the IC piping and intake. Also you should follow the upgrade guide.
