Good buy for a 95 GSX?

Make sure to check out the photos as well. In addition to what's listed, the owner has informed me of the following mods currently on it:
John Shepard tranny triple synchro on 1st and 2nd, replaced 2nd gear, replaced 5th gear (reportedly good to 180, but also said it was built to same spec of the 8.6 second Talon the shop drags)
New center diff.
ABS on this particular model
HKS 3 inch exhaust super dragger titanium
HKS 3 inch downpipe
greddy intercooler pipes, upper and lower
k and n intake
17 inch motegi wheels
greddy turbo timer
greddy type-s blow off valve

10K is a bit high, I got my 98 leather GS for that amount.....3 year difference, 35K difference, etc, etc.

Yea but this is a GSX, big difference ! I'm still with you tho, I see some excellent condition 1999 GSXs on eBay for that much!

nice...but is that how much gsx's are going for around your area? im with everyone else....too much. he acts as if the rebuilt tranny is a good thing....i read it as...i've dogged the car and the tranny got screwed, so i rebuilt it. but that's just me.

Allot of nice oparts already on it but hate to give you the bad news.
If you do get a 2G you now have that little thing called "Crank-walk", floating around your brain. Get more info on the engine. I also agree with what "tlnpwr" said, "i read it as...i've dogged the car and the tranny got screwed, so i rebuilt it. but that's just me."
I checked the value on my 95 GSX still on the stock engine and turbo It's got 119,xxx miles. It booked for $3800.00. You can find them cheaper in near-oem condition.

my buddy sells cars he had a gsx 98 he sold for 8500 w/new motor (rebuilt) and a brand new tranny and t.c. w/a lot more upgrades than the car you are looking at

For 10k you better have an IMMACULATE 95, with EVERYTHING done to it.

Now if it were a 98-99, that'd be a good price.

And to KNOWING the guy dogged the tranny and had to rebuild it; would you not prefer that to buying a car and having NO idea if he dogged it or not and NOT having a rebuilt tranny?

Come on, it's a GSX, unless he's 50+ he's not completely babying it.

Thanks guys. The seller reported 500 miles on the tranny, and had the motor checked for signs of crankwalk and found none. Still, I'll keep my eye out. I thought 10k was a bit much too.

The seller is expecting to get money out of what he put into it, which never happens. That car is worth 7500 to 8000 tops...THATS if the car is in GREAT condition, no rust, or mechanical problems.

I think 8's still way too much considering the other cars on here you can get for 9-10k - some VERY nicely done ones.

That car's only 30miles from me, never seen it though.

Hell no!!!!!!!! He's got to be crazy. I seriously wouldn't pay anymore than $7,000 MAX. I would keep looking if i were you. yea he's got a dollar or two in it, maybe a set of rims and a kit. But that was for his personal pleasure, not to improve the resale value of the car.

hmm...i wonder y he's sellin it. could it b......crankwalk? maybe. at 95k it's actually lived pretty long. u should check the engine out and test drive it....u'll b able to tell. it's not worth buying it if it has cw. trust me, i know how it feels.

I'm at 160k and walk hasn't scared me yet. People pleeeeeeeeease stop overhyping this problem with 2g's. Remember when you think about crankwalk to think about this. You only hear about the people that walked, not the people that didn't/haven't". With that being said and addressed I'll say this about his car.

Tell him to quit trying to get his money back out of the car because it won't happen. Offer him $7,000 cash and tell him if he dosen't want it to call you if he changes his mind. Also I don't know alot of people that do those mods that "dont run the car". So that would make me question him also. O well.... Just my opinion.

Since I've never been in a DSM I wouldn't know a walking from a normal engine feel, but I'm not worried about CW. If it happens it happens. Thanks for the suggestions.
As far as the mods ruining the car...he's shelled out for them all to be professionally installed. Personally I like getting down and dirty in my car installing everything myself, but that's just me.
The reason he told me he's selling it is because he started going to college in Georgia (he lived in Aurora, OH), and his parents BOUGHT him a new, more college-friendly car (Aurora is where somewhat wealthy people live...I wish my parents would've bought me a car), so he's selling his DSM to reimburse his parents for the difference in tuition payments for the new, more expensive college he's attending now.

This is the first car I saw that I liked, and it'd be against common sense to buy it based on that. I'll keep my eyes peeled. Thanks for all you guys' help.

Lets seriously look at this for a second.

Lots of money on upgrades and no boost controller???? surely he had one on there at one point and took it off. Nobody spends 6k on extras and doesn't get the 60 dollar boost controller. In addition he has no fuel changes. This doesn't speak well to me. Did you scope the tops of the pistons? for 10 grand at 95k i would atleast look down in there with a flashlight.

I agree completely 100%. It is one thing for somebody to rebuild a tranny and expect to get the market value of the car...but it doesn't significantly add.

Also if he didn't do the work himself he may not have known how to tune/drive the car. Typically it is the people who don't understand the engines who phook them up first with less power.

It looks like you're looking for cars around VA/NC.. ha, I was doing the exact same thing till a friend of mine told me he wanted to sell his. I couldn't find ANTYHING within 300miles (virginia beach) that had decent mileage, and a good price. I found a few around Florida, an area code for where I used to live is 32955 (around cocoa beach FL), try there, it's about a 12 hour drive from where I am, but you can just type in 3955 and select 300 miles, and you've covered 600 miles between VA and FL.. I hate how autotrader maxes it out at 300, then anything Big difference between 900 miles and 2200!

That 2nd one you posted is ok..Its at 10k right now with 3 days left, I'd expect it to hit 13-14k. If you have around 14k, theres a white 97 GSX in the classified section that is BEAUTIFULLY done for sale! I'd grab it, but I'm trading my car and he didn't sound interested, but my friend is.

Seriously though, I unfortunately am only planning on spending 10k max...people have gotten just as good deals with less. Even though that 97 looks tantalizing. Just gotta find someone that doesn't know the value of their car as well
