im thinking about buying a 95 gsx. it has 113000 miles on it, and i was just wondering..what should i look out for? its gonna be my first used car, so i dont know what to look for.

first off, of course ask how often the oil was changed. Then, (make sure you bring a phillips head screwdriver and do this before you drive it) take off the intake tube to the turbocharger and reach in there with two fingers and grab the bolt that holds the turbine in the housing, try to wiggle it. if it moves alot chances are the turbo will take a shit sooner rather than later. if not, all is cool. also pull the oil cap off and turn it over. look for sludge on the bottom of the cap. minor sludging is relatively normal for 100k+, but if you see alot, the oil frequently went unchanged (baaaad). when first starting the car when you get there, have them start the car, not you, and stand behind it when started. look for the blue smoke out the exhaust (valve seals crappin out most likely). when driving the car, pay attention to the way it feels in the left front floorboard. if you feel slight knocking in the floorboard, possible crankwalk issue (almost got sucked into 98 GST spyder with that). thats all i can think of besides looking under car and checking to see any visible leaks under car at the moment. any more questions PM me.

ask what mods were done to that car and who did the work. also if the say they have internale i.e. piston and such make sure they have papers. it's kind of ironic though that when i bought my eclipse it had 113k also... go figure :)

Nothing common on 2G's. But again, if it was modified (gauges, ghetto neon, turbo timer, afc, etc) check ALL wiring. If wiring jobs were hacked it could be a nightmare to have to redo when you don't know what they did in the first place.

Check transmission, transfer case, and rear diff fluid if possible and ask when was the last time they were changed. My car had 102k on it with original fluids in the T-case and rear dif. In fact, check all fluid levels and conditions and ask for last changed dates.

Also note the shift feel. Check for grinding into gears, ease of getting into reverse etc.

While you have the intake tube off make note of how much oil is in there. If they have the breather line hooked up, the more oil the more blow by it has. If the line isn't hooked up, the oil is probably from the turbo.

so i finally got to test drive the gsx last night.. everything felt fine..except sometimes the clutch engagement would be hard..especially 1st to 2nd...it would go away if i slipped the clutch a little bit. there was also a whining sound around the tranny area..i looked it up, and it said that it was something loose in the rear differential. any insight on the clutch engagement?
