i found this dsm thats like 20 minutes away and i want to go test drive it soon

i think its a pretty deecent deal but was just wondering what you guys thought

its a 1991 Mitsubishi Eclipse GST 5 speed brand new motor not even driven yet ported and polished head with over sized stainless steel valves 16g turbo new clutch 2g manifold new kyb agx shocks on front white with black roof walbro 255 fuel pump 18in giavanna rims hyper black needs to be tuned. also an alpine type r sub. theres 132k on the body. the engine was just rebuilt. brakes are good and he has a ton of extra parts he said hell throw in.

in the pictures the car looks pretty clean but i dont know if im allowed to post them or the link so i wont

i think theres a dyno place by me so hopefully all it needs is the tune but i guess ill find out on the test drive.. o yeah the price was dropped from 3k to 2500

i know i ###### shouldnt have posted this i just wanted to hear some feedback from you expierienced dsmers out there :thumb:

I think you actually just proved me wrong. Instead of fixing the leak you just keep cleaning it up.

I'm just kidding.:p

well thats pretty cool man too bad we couldn't meet up so we could look at each others. i work nights so i probably wont be around when you get here.

i second that... i bought my car and it has a oil pan leak thats been there for years. so i have heavy thick sludge and oil build up all under my car on EVERYTHING..

That's called a free undercarriage oil spray to combat rust. :p

Ask for reciepts for the engine rebuild and make sure it doesn't leak oil. If both check out, I'd say he's telling the truth.

we can still meet up sometime if you want to look at each others cars or whatever, do you work on the weekends as well? hopefully i can get this stuff done today and buy me a dsm haha

o yeah and timg i will def ask for receipts and make sure the car doesnt leak anything, should i just lay underneath it after i drive it to see or just look under the car?

You should look underneath it before and after you test drive it to see if there are any oil spots. Also check the oild stick for bubles. Good luck man

He's running without heat sheilds, strike 4.

He's running without an upper timing belt cover, strike 5.

He has no reason to run without an upper timing belt cover (i.e. cam gears), strike 6.

The BOV is vented, strike 7.

If he JUST rebuilt the entire motor, why would he sell it? strike 8

Honesly, those rims would have been strikes 1-10 for me. No one that knows anything would put those disgustingly heavy monstrosities on a DSM.:notgood:
Ok, I got tired of reading through all the posts so Im just posting now with a few quick words, I know your not getting the first one now, but I just want to make one more point against him, he doesnt have a driverside fan(strike 9), and I thing this link will help you while buying a used DSM>>>http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=238710

Dustin

yeah ive read that thing a lot, it gets me everytime haha good info there ill try to use as much of it as possible when i go to see this car today or tomorrow or whatever and ill let you guys know whats up, maybe take some pics if your lucky ;) peace out for now wish me luck!

What's wrong with that? I don't have a driver's side fan either....:(

I wouldn't imagine it to be too bad, but since he doesnt have any heat shields the temps under the engine bay would be real hot, if I were you Tyler, I would put the driverside fan back in and wire it up to go with the passenger side fan.

Dustin

ok guys i just talked to the seller and im going to meet him at a local dmv in a bit to test drive it and see if we can work out the title stuff. THe only things it needs are ###### a new tranny since he said the 2nd gear synchro is bad ( itll shift but its rough ) and maybe a new turbo since it puffs smoke at full boost.. hes a mechanic and will help me with all the installations like if i got the parts he would put them in with me.. so a new 14 b is cheap and since im getting a tranny i mine as well go with like a used shep tranny he advised..what do you guys think? ill check back in a few hours when i return, ill let you guys know how the test drive goes :rocks:

hopefully i dont get shot or stabbed haha

ok nevermind he just called me and said its raining by him so he wants to wait until tomorrow

thats allright though i dont really want to check the car out in the rain thats bad karma, so ill go tomorrow in between classes or i should probably wait until thursday since i have to go home to work anyway

nevertheless ill keep updating the status of this deal thanks guys

I would go check it out when you wont be rushed and have some time to spare, so that way you wont rush and miss something.

Dustin

im tired of not being able to find a dsm i think i might just settle for something else, this english paper sucks its really depressing me

i know i know, i actually just talked to the guy with the white one with the rims and addressed all the problems you guys brought up.. he seemed knowledgable and had an explanation for everything. he was running stock boost on the 16g, he can give me a stock fuel pump, he has a drivers side fan but says he didnt need it due to the 2g manifold. he has the exhaust manifold bolt, says it runs fine with the vented bov but i would just recirculate it when i bought. doesnt leak or smoke, timing belt cover was removed to paint hte cam gears to match the valve cover, he has it so ill replac ethat as well....im going to go take a look at it anyway guys although youve advised against it, ill bring dealer plates and tet drive it and see whats up.....ill test drive the other one tomorrow as well and let you guys know whats up with that too...english paper is moving along now hha so im feeling better, later

Dont forget to follow this>>>http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=238710, if the engine was truely just rebuilt the compression might be a little lower then ideal from the rings not fully seating. Also If I were you ...if you do get it, sell those rims, and get some rerurbed 1Gs.:p Also you will want both heat shields back on there. Also what kind of oil is he using in the car...if its synthetic, I would walk, because if he doesn't have enough know how to know he has to use reg. oil on an engine for the first 1500 miles, then he wouldnt know what else to do. The car might seem it runs fine with venting the BOV but it makes it run rich. Also the stock FPR is being over run by the 255, so I would just keep the 255 and get an AFPR.

Dustin

he has a drivers side fan but says he didnt need it due to the 2g manifold
Did anyone else say WTF at this point?

he has the exhaust manifold bolt, says it runs fine with the vented bov but i would just recirculate it when i bought.

Agian, just be warned. This definately sounds to me like all my "but it runs fine" friends...

Hey you're tranny has no fluid in it. "Yea I know but its runs fine, its really easy to shift."

Hey you're at a 14:1 AFR. "Yea but it runs fine, its way faster than it was at 13:1 where I've been running it for the past week."

Hey your exhaust manifold is missing 4 studs. "Yea but it runs fine, not boosting until 5k helps me maintain traction."

Hey you can't run 950cc injectors with no way to tune. "Yea but it runs fine, I just turned the boost way up to give it more air."

My point is that someone with that attitude lacks the intelligence and know how to properly take care of these very fickle and delicate cars. 4g also made a very good point about the oil. That's a definately sign right there.

Venting and the 255 with no FPR could explain why the car needs to be tuned.

My 2 cents: If the car is running rich enough, you can wash out the rings and they will never seat properly...Making your car smoke constantly. I'd have the owner put the stock pump back in for the break in though, no sense risking having poor compression due to running rich through the entire break in process.

some more good points, i will confront him all this....

i was thinking i would just recirculate the bov, run reg oil, get an afpr off ebay i guess LOL ( what should i set that too?), put the timing belt cover back on, put the fan on and heat shields, and then break the car in for a while...

so pretty much take it back to stock except for the fuel pump and no cat i think..

the traNNI was rebuilt as well so thats good but i will keep all the info you guys have supplied in mind when i check the car out.... id rather buy this one then the other one that needs a lot of work (turbo, tranny, bodykit removal)

how much do you think i could get for those rimss? id sell them on ebay and buy some stock 1g talon wheel and do the black with chrome lip

thanks again

Yeah thats about what I was thinking but with more..."This guy is a $#^*!^ idiot" it seems to me that he has limited knowledge of setting the car up properly, but putting in a larger pump and think its fine, without an AFPR to keep the pump from over running the stock FPR. What does having a 2G exhaust manifold matter? Its going to get super hot inside the engine bay without those heatshields, and driverside fan. Thats going to ruin all the silicon and rubber hoses, it will mess the paint up on the hood, it will make the fluids boil, and the air filter is in the engine bay, so it will be sucking in overly heated air, and this will put more strain on the SMIC to keep things cool, and if the intake temps get too hot, you will be seeing knock at lower boost levels...see how something like that can mess up so much...not too mention"search melted fan blades" without heat shields this is likely to happen, and to the best of my memory plastic fan blades dont work when melted, so there goes the passenger side fan, and you probably wont know it while driving because the factory guage sits in the middle "normal" area from 180*-230*roughly, and then it will shoot up sky high, and the engine might get royally messed up. Also any time someone says "but it runs fine" it really means they have no idea WTF they are doing, and dont belong driving, or "modding" cars. All I have done with my car, is clean it with a crazed passion, and do all maintenance religiously, and mine has stock 14B with 190k miles on it, with no side to side play, and no in and out play, also my tranny is original, and engine was not rebuilt, I will be rebuilding it but nothing what so ever was wrong with it, no leaks, compression test was perfect, coolant system has no leaks. I would seriously wonder to myself...hmmmm, this guy says it does 155mph(the stock speedo only goes up to 150mph, so I call BS on that) but he still probably beats the hell out of it, and I would wonder why would he need a rebuild??? Just some food for thought
EDIT: Here you are>>>http://www.vfaq.com/mods/FPR.html

why does it seem like im always looking at the same cars you do haha. Im sick of the rebuilt cars, i just want a stock 91 tsi awd, but there are none aroUND!

Its very hard to find a well kept 1G thats stock, but if you look hard, and your not worried how far away it is, you will find them.

its the dirty jerz inside of us! LOL well theres not that many dsms around here so i dont know about you but ill settle for a rebuilt one as oppose to one (the other one im looking at ) that needs a tranny and turbo.. but on the other hand id like a car that hasnt been shat on like this white one

ill just test drive both of these cars and then go from there i really dont have any other options besides just waiting but im so impatient :nono:
