Godspeed Vs. Mishimoto Vs. FMIC Radiators

My radiator is blown and I'm running a 16g, so instead of replacing it with a factory radiator, I feel my best bet is to upgrade. However, has anyone bought a Godspeed radiator off of Ebay?? They run a little cheaper than Mishimoto and FMIC radiators, but is their really a difference between the three??

Blackworks $219 + $10 insurance = $229 shipped
Mishimoto $240 + $21 CA tax = $261 shipped
CXracing $133 + $31 shipping + $16 CA tax = $180 shipped
Godspeed $160 + $40 shipping + $16.50 CA tax = $216.50 shipped

CRX is clearly the cheapest, but is their really a difference between the radiators??

I have read good things about the cxracing, and plan to buy one myself sometime soon. All of what I've read shows that they are pretty much the same as mishimoto, and that's good enough for me.

I havent used an aftermarket radiator yet. I do have a Godspeed FMIC though, and it works fine. Im sure their radiators are of same quality.

I have had the cx racing for over a year and its great, MY 90 has a mishimoto about 9 months old its doing great as well. The cx racing looked just as good as the mishimoto to be honest. There was a semi drastic drop in my standing and driving temp on both. egt's went down a little and everything is great. MY only gripe about both is the quality of the o ring in the drain plug. THATS IT I polished both of them and they look GREAT. The cx racing fit a little more snugly into the mounts but I could have tapped the rad studs with a brass hammer and it would have been 100%. I also run a god speed fmic on my profile car I have had it for about a year also with no issue. Its also polished and looking very nice. I have the cx racing delta fin type fmic on my 90 its been on for about a year also. The core fin material could be a little higher quality they bend fairly easily but its works great.

I had a CXR but it failed and I'm running Mishimoto now. I would go with Mishi over the others, especially because of their lifetime warranty.

i think that the godspeed product are all good i have the radiator and it looks good no cracks or bends. it made to fit stock fans but will come with slim fans. I think it will work fine and for the price you cant go wrong. i should have the car running tomorrow and will tell how it holds up.

I got the cx racing for $189 shipped with 2, 12" fans. Haven't installed it yet as I'll be dropping it in with my turbo engine in the next few months. the cx one is the same radiator that punishment racing sells. Most ebay parts are worthless but the radiators seem to be pretty good to go.

Do yourself a favor and find used in good shape Fluidyne, or KOYO...

Several other factors, like thermostat and fans play a HUGE role in engine cooling. For your info Brass has better thermal conductivity, than aluminum... I am saying that, cause several years ago my rad blew up, so I bought some auto parts store replacement and it was with metal end thanks and it was made from brass......

OEM 180* thermostat+ Perma-Cool high output 12" fan/3000CFM's/ with stock rad. will cool better, than any alum. rad. with shitty slim fans/1200-1300 CFM's each/..

Simple things like heat shield and proper ducting will lower more than 7-10*F...

I got it without the shrouds. I researched it and asked around and decided that any gains from the shrouds would be minimal at best and they could even be a hinderance.

If brass is so good than why are you recommending Fluidyne or Koyo which are both aluminum?

Yes brass conducts heat better than aluminum. But aluminum is the preferred materiel for performance radiators. Why? Here is a quote from Hot Rod Magazine:
In real-world applications, aluminum radiators save weight and perform better compared to old-school copper/brass radiators.

In theory, traditional brass/copper radiators are thermally more efficient than aluminum radiators. But an equivalent-size aluminum radiator is at least 40-percent lighter. And due to inherent design differences, achieving equivalent aluminum radiator performance to the copper/brass radiator it replaces usually results in actual packaging-space reductions. That’s because aluminum radiators can use larger-diameter internal coolant tubes compared to the brass/copper configuration. Aluminum is stronger than brass or copper, so larger diameter tubes made from aluminum are able to withstand higher internal pressures without the risk of structural failure. Fewer, but lighter, large-diameter aluminum tubes let the radiator manufacturer pack in more cooling fins per inch. This means an equivalent cooling-capacity aluminum radiator can be made thinner. Making the radiator thinner improves airflow through the core and saves even more weight.

I do agree with your statement about heat shields and ducting. They both play a very important roll in lowering underhood temps.

I don't see how a shroud could hinder cooling, Every OE uses them. As long as there is a good seal the same fan can pull from a greater area.

I personally have no experience using a shroud. I asked for opinions, weighed my options, and decided to go without the shroud. I am not saying that there is anything wrong with having a shroud, just stating why I chose to pass on it.

i have a blackworks radiator for my car got it for $150 shipped from Phoenix Az. haven’t actually used it in a running car yet but i did have a small issue with one of the welds not being 100% complete and it had a small leak in it. blackworks has a lifetime warrantee on their radiators as well and replaced it with no questions asked. i take that back they did ask if i could send them a picture of where it was leaking from. my only complaint is that the fan mounts are a bit long so the fans sit a bit far from the radiator but it shouldn’t be an issue if you are using slim fans.

I am trying to figure out where to buy mine from, i forgot i have FAL slimline fans from one of my saturn projects.
On the topic of radiators Do you guys use any of the silicone hoses?

Nice thread. I've been curious about some of these products for a while. I've been going between the CX and the Mishimoto. I'm leaning towards the Mishimoto now. Can't beat a good warranty.

I have the mishimoto and i love it, it kept my car cool in the summer without fans even. Yes, i have my fan installed now. Just saying though.
