GM Maf question

Ok, so I just picked up a GM Maf from a junkyard today, and had a question about it. It currently has the honey combs in it, with a center bar. I have seen people take all this out, but for what reason? Here are some pics if it helps.

Leave it in. Taking it out will serve no performance gain whatsoever. It's not restrictive in the least...the only "gain" you'll have is a nice annoying whistle.

+1 just leave it alone. I have never taken mine out.

Ok, I just wanted to know why people did it. But if it serves no purpose, then might as well not deal with the hassle. Ok, thanks.

If I remember correctly in the 4g63 book I read it said to leave it alone due to turbulance before the hot wire. Someone correct me if i'm wrong.
