im going to be going to the gm maf soon, and i would like to know if i can tune just with the translator. i read some post and people said to get the DSMlink with it, but i dont have money like that. this is my daily driver and i cant stop it for days to work on it. i do live in south florida and i heard that the maf is sensitive to this weather? dont know if its true or not. any info would be great. thanks

i have the gm maf and translator and you CAN tune decent with the translator but it doesent have vary much selection. for example... the 3 setting would be to rich but the 4 would be to lean. i have dsm link with mine for the fine adjustments and it works great

I was going to do the same thing, but It's in your best interest to get an E-manage/afc-neo,etc. The translator is just too crude of a tool to use for tuning. but thats just how i feel, im sure ppl have. but it would be a royal pain in the ass...

and yes it is pretty sensitive to weather... i like in ontario and one day it will run decent than the next it would be not so good. you can deal with it but i would recomend the 2g maf if you have the money

If you aren't using something to tune that isn't Link or a standalone I fully recommend the MAF-T over the 2g maf.

Basically you can set it to the injector size and get a ballpark tune right out of the gate. Makes tuning with an AFC a ton easier.

However the price of a new MAF-T and a AFC rivals Link upfront, Link is the better choice.
But if you're like me and go both for under 200$ together, you work with what you have.

I also have the MAFT and DSMLink and they work well together....I can't wait to get my ECMLink and get rid of the MAFT all together. It was tedious tuning with DSMLink to get it just right I cant imagine how bad it would suck with out having a stand alone or at least an AFC to tweak it with. In my experience the GM MAF's have some minor variations so you can get things set for a GM MAF and if you need to replace it you have to start all over.

I would highly suggest staying stock, find a used one, save your bucks to get ECMLink or an older version of DSMLink. Save yourself the frustration.

My 2 cents.

well i have the 2g mas in my 1g talon. its just running to lean. dont know why, i step on the gas and i have no power till the turbo kicks in wichick is around 2500 to 3000 rpm. i really dont want to spend money on a S-AFC. i know people that have the maf-t in their conquest/starion and it works great for them. im pretty sure the ECU works different, but still it should be the same.
