So today I dropped my car off at a reputable shop to get my 3" GM MAF installed. Had them do it since I don't have anything to cut my mild steel IC pipe. The tuner there has a dsm so I felt confident my car was in good hands. To my loss he was not in until later which my appointment was at 10am.

Anyways here is my concern. I have never seen the gm maf installed in this location (lower then the bov). My thought was it has to be 6"-8" from the throttle body on the upper part of the bov. Now it's going to measure air after the bov blows off? Will I be running rich between shifts now? I'm running ECMlink V3. The car has not been driven yet because I am waiting to get a tune so I have the stock MAF hooked up.

Pictures after the instal. Sorry my garage is dark.

If you are venting the BOV then yes that is a very bad install, you want your vented BOV before the MAF as it goes into the engine. Take it back to the shop you got it at and complain.

^^Exactly right. If you were recirculating the BOV then it would be fine but it looks like your not, so it needs to be between the BOV and Throttle body. Bad install.

F**K.. So I just got off the phone with them and they said they would have to recharge me to redo it. I was like what kind of customer service is that and they told me they are short on time. Also stating they would have to charge me $500 to redo my ic piping. That is F-ing BS! They took my $80 and basically did an incorrect instal. So tomorrow I'm going back with my car and speaking with the shop owner because I am pretty pissed right now. I figured they knew what they were doing because there tuner is a big dsm guy. Sucks for me today was his off day which I had thought in the beginning he was going to be doing the instal.

Yes talk to the owner and if you can the DSM guy there you spoke of, they are ripping you off. Arent there any local guys that can help you out?

If you didn't sign anything sue em.

If you did... do it anyway, contracts never mean anything.ROFL

Well, sine they just spliced it into your existing piping, they put it in the only possible location. The simple solution is to just recirculate your valve since there's no reason for you not to. It's not like you're running a Tial and have to vent.

Trying to explain to the shop owner that you wanted it after the valve without them fabbing a whole new upper pipe and he's liable to smack you in the head. There just isn't room. They did the only install they could, it's not their fault.

Edit: On closer inspection, you may be able to swap them around. It's hard to tell from the pics though. Try taking the MAF and pipe where the valve is off and rearranging them. For $80 you can't expect a shop to hack up your pipe and reweld everything to make nice so that you can vent.
