GM 3" MAF do i need?

No need to get a gm one use the stock for now and get the holset right with your setup, then look at the differences if you need to.
 
Depending on the boost you plan on running you might max out your stock 2g MAF in which case you would need to use a MAF clamp, but you will need to get a map sensor for that, and if you end up getting a map sensor then you will be just a intake temp sensor away from converting to speed density.
 
I would stick with the GM one cause sooner or later you will want to turn up boost and then the 2g one wont work.
 
If you get a gm maf, ecmlink and the maf cable is the way to go unless you wanna change your tune a lot....with the translator. The cable makes it much better.
