Umm, yeah you need at least the translator for it. You probably should get an UICP and intake, too.

That's a good way to waste $500 bucks just to "I just want to vent to atmosphere" :thumbdown

Holy Sh!t...I tell you want. First see if the plug for the mitsubishi eclipse mass air flow sensor will fit into the gm maf sensor.

People seem to hear that they can safely vent if they get "the gm maf" thing. Do people do their research anymore? Find out what the product is, what parts they would need to complete the project, reviews of people currenlty using it, what supporting equipment they'll need, how compatible it is with their car (1g or 2g).

I HIGHLY sugguest doing some research on the unit and see if it's something you want to tackle. If you just want to vent, and don't want to learn about the gm maft product, then I would suggust taking off your reroute house from your bov to the intake and just vent. Yes you'll run rich between shifts, but that will be better than if you get the gm maft, don't know what your doing, set it up competely wrong, run lean, and run your motor.

In order to run the gm maf translator setup, you would at least need:
gm maf 3" : 20-100 dollars
translator electronic box : 200 dollars
new gm upper ic pipe (much better than just couplers) : 250 dollars
new vpc intake pipe and filter : 100 dollars
pocketlogger (a must to tune): 179 dollars +palm

So do you still want to spend all that $ just to vent?

forget it waste 500 bucks I can put towards a 16g thanks guys

I want a GM maft to help get rid of the awful restrictoin that is the 1st gen MAF.. and to be able to relocate my air filter to the wheel well (CAI)

and from what i've read its not to hard to do,, but are the benifits worth 500?

Are You Guys Stupid Or Something The Maf Sensor Is One Of The Biggest Parts You Need In A Dsm Either If Its A 2g Sensor Of The Gm And You Do Not Need A Gm Pipe? All You In Is The Sensor Translator And Some 2.5 To 3 Inch Couplings If You Already Have A Upper Intercooler Pipe ( Aftermarket) You Guys Are Stupid ..... Yea You Can Vent But The Changes In How Much Harder Your Car Will Pull,,, Is What You Get Out Of It And You Dont Not Need A Intake Pipe Put A Screen On It ..........................

Please attempt to type in some sort of English before you call anyone here "stupid". I used my decoder ring and STILL can't figure out what the hell you are trying to say.

must be a 2nd gen thing... (cant trust those guys..)

Has anyone gone from 1st Gen MAF to a GM maft & noticed faster spool up? better ability to manage A/F ratio ?

What the #### are you talking about? Dude, learn how to type for starters. I don't think I've ever seen so many capital letters in this catastrophe of incoherent rambling. And do us all a favor, don't do anything to your car until you come back with some kind of certificate stating you've learned DECENT english.

ok you want english.... ill give you english... when any of you people who just commented about my post start running 10's than you can start talking shit to me .....enough said

Hmm, lets take a look at your time slip:

It apears that not only do you not have a "10's" time slip, but you dont even have a car anymore?

If this was directed at me, I'm sure I can help you find your way off this board.

Getting back to the subject….. If some of you remember the opening discussion about the MAF setup. Initial tests showed an improvement in throttle response, and a lower spool up RPM on the turbo. I have one for my car but still need to get the replacement or different air filter to allow routing of my upper intercooler piping. If I ever get time to put this thing in and tune it I will let you know how it went.

thanks, I know i was being lazy by not searching,, i always apreciate answers to my questions, seems less 'canned" than a search result :thumb:

I guess if my parts ever get here i'll have to give a GM maf a shot.. I'm pretty sure my 1g MAF is a big restricting factor for me right now. :|

If it was up to me, you would have been gone already. It looks like you don't even have a car right now.

a fool talks shit to everyone...

a wise man knows who he can and cant talk shit to...

you sir are a fool...

as for gains.. yeah the 1G MAF sucks and i'd recommend getting rid of it any way you can... the CAI idea is nice HOWEVER you HAVE to stay away from water.. i used to run a CAI there and i loved it but even if i just drove on a day when the ground was wet i'd have to dump water out of the pipe.. i finally gave up and put it back in the engine bay when i got tired of having to be afraid of a rain drop

I Thought the MAFt was more well known now, but I'll post my results, if I remember it all correctly still. On my 2g with a TDO6H/56 trim, I only got about 200 rpm quicker spool (25 psi at ~4300), but the time to respool after shifts was DRASTICALLY reduced. This was in the 50 lbs/min range. A 1g with its shyte sensor? This mod should be a no brainer if you are already tuning the car, or plan to anyway (datalogger, etc). I dont know where the 500 dollar figure comes from, you can get the translator, MAF, and couplers for 300 if you dont mind getting creative. No says you HAVE to run in blow through either, unless you want to vent (no need unless you need to run a real BOV like tial, sard, etc). A draw through installation is very easy.

My car runs 10 times better after the MAFt swap. I could never go back just because I ahve exceeded the limits of the 2g sensor. But even if that werent the case, the reduced restriction, better spool, ability to run my tial/sard properly, etc is well worth every penny. If you dont think you can handle an AFC and logger, dont bother with the MAFt, its nearly the same thing as far as that goes. Otherwise go for it if it makes sense at your stage of modding/tuning.

Though I have nowhere near the mods that Kevin has, I found the MAFT to be one of the best investments thus far. I have noticed significant throttle response, it pulls alot harder, and my gas mileage has gone up (not running lean, so don't worry). Without a doubt, you will need a logger, and will need to be able to read it and understand it.
