Glow gauges [Merged 3-9]

I've now gone through two sets of Ebay reverse glow guage sets for my main guage cluster, both sets lasting just short of 6 months each :notgood: Both were white faced and blue "reverse" lighting. Anyway, I've read a few threads since browsing this forum of using LED's to make the numbering "glow"...cool, but... i stumbled on to a set of reverse glow guages from procarparts.com and was wondering if anyone had experiece w/ these guages and basically if they are worth a damn. Otherwise, anyone know of a good "glow" guage (preferably reverse) that will actually last?

I bought mine off of ebay for about $45. They were white with blue/green reverse gauges. They worked fine. That name sounds familiar too.
Why are you blowing gauges though. Mybee you are sending to much power to the inverter pack and its shutting down, or blowing up. I put my gagues into the "taillamp" fuse on my 95 Talon NT. They worked so that they went on/off when I turned my lights on. I loved them. good luck man. :thumb:

If they don't it could be because of weak LEDs? You would just replace the LEDs before you install the cluster to a brighter, longer lasting LED. Then install it and don't worry about it.

The reverse glow gauges use E.l. lighting not led's. But are you hookin the ballast to a switched 12v source or to the factory dimmer. I have seen this problem before it is usually when it is hooked to the dimmer circuit. Just a thought.

Interesting... I can attest to this. I've had mine hooked up to a switched 12V source (ashtray light) for more than a year with no problems.

I want to get the white reverse glow gauges but before i do im wanting to make sure i'll be able to install them without breaking anything, namely the plastic cover over the cluster... exactly how hard is removal/installation for this? Any info greatly appreciated. :thumb:
:talon: Thanks, Cale

its easy... there are taps around the back side of the cluster that you just use a small flat tip screwdriver to push the tabs down and pull the plastic away from the cluster. Just take your time, and make sure you dont crack it on accident. There are probably about 10 of them so just go slow and you will be fine its easy.

Where do i connect the power wire for the glow gauges? What color wire ?

im installing them on a 1995 eagle talon turbo, Thanks

okay,

I replaced my old cluster gauge faces with ebay reverse glow gauge. Now, my gas, and temp. gauges are messed up.

My gas doesnt go up. it stays all the way down even with a full tank of gas. I took out the plastic cover, set the gas on the middle and it still went all the way down and doesnt move.

now, my temp gauge goes all the way to the red. i put the ignition switch to on, took out the pointer and set it up with the line and it still does the same thing after being stared on for 5 min.

Anyone got a tip on how to fix this? or do i have to replace the thing inside.(forgot what its called)

you pulled the needles out to install the gauge faces? Uhm... If so your cluster is dead! you can spin the actual gauge in circles a billion and one times... So pretty much, if you pulled the needles on anything in your stock gauges, they are screwed! I made that mistake before. But the gauges should be designed to fit over your needles. You just put the needles in the holes... and then mold them under the needles and around.... Its quite easy when you figure it out.

I screwed up my Fuel gauge, possibly my temp gauge and my tach... well when the car was running, the rpm's were at 2500.

I dint took out the needle, i only took out the orange pointer, the two screws that hold the black face and took it out. then put the glow gauges in, put on those screws then the pointers. put back everything, started the car for 5 to 10 mins idle. the temp is on the red line and gas on empty when i went back in the car.

I could use some info on this too. *bump bump*

When I got my car my temp gauge never moves from the middle (car off and cold, or on and warm). My oil temp is always just a hair under high temp line and NEVER Moves regardless of the vehicle's condition. My turbo gauge (not that I really care) just simply doesn't have a needle on it.ROFL Just curious as to how to correct this.

Yes, you took the needle off the gauge. You screwed it all... The gauge faces are made to install without taking any of that apart. I'm sorry! Might as well go get a new gauge cluster at the local junk yard and try again. Just dont take the original gauges apart at all... dont seperate the needle at all!

To install the gauge faces, you just put the needle through the hole and mold it around it and down onto the gauge face.. the screws yes, you can take those apart... and add them to the top of the new face. But thats it!

Okay, thanks for the info. good thing i have an extra 1 lying around some where.

Always good to have. I'd pull mine apart to show you... but I just got all the wireing perfectly stashed...

Pretty much, the face goes over the needle and everything else. Yes you take the screws out cause you screw the faces down over everything stock... the middle hole on the face... put the needle through that by folding the face a little, and just manipulate it to go over and boom! it will be done!

Hey guys, bringing another post back from the dead. I just ordered this kit as well. How's it looking on your cars? Is the blue bright? Do you have pics to show?

Thanks!

I had 2 sets on my 1g's and I loved them at first. Take your time installing though. The oil psi gauge will come apart when you take the screws out if your not paying attention then it is the BIGGEST PITA to get back together. I took the needles off, and no probs. Just be careful. Althoughhhhh..after about 2 monthes or so, they are kinda irritating to the eye. Way too bright for my night liking. I learned to appreciate the OEM cluster. During the day though, they looked BA.

I was going to get me some a while back.
The store where i was going to get them told me not to remove the needles because they would mess up. He said a few of his customers did this and had to get all new gauges. So i was no thank you mess up my gauges for a light i don't think so.

Their's obviously a proper way of installing them. Without removing the needles, and without messing shit up.
