It's been a while since I've modded a car and I am very excited to get started on my 91 Tsi AWD.

I know the basics but I'm not quite on the same level as some of you so I would like to get your opinions on something.

I'm in the process now of doing all my routine maintenece, ie t-belt, oil change, coolant flush, brakes, tranny fluid, etc.

For my first upgrades, I'm going to follow much of what is listed in the Tuning Guide with a couple of added extras. This is what I have or have ordered:

- RNR 3" downpipe with cat eliminator option and custom cat back exhaust that me and my bud will weld from 3" mandrel bend piping from JEG's or Summit.

- K&N air filter with a hacked airbox.

- Greddy Profec-B EBC.

- Boost Gauge

- Ported 2g Ex. Manifold, O2 housing, and turbo housing with 34mm flapper.

Now for my question....

If I keep the boost set to 16psi and I don't get any boost creep should I have any issues with fuel cut?

Also, I noticed in the Stage 1 upgrade list it's suggested to upgrade the fuel pump. Is this necessary? I will do the rewire of the stock unit.

Just so you all know, I don't plan on doing any major upgrades for at least a year or so. At that point I will upgrade the turbo and mods to support it, ie AFC, injectors, etc.

Thanks for the help folks :)

You should be fine with just a rewire if your only running 15-17lbs. If your doing those in the order listed move the boost gauge up to 1st.

On that setup I don't see you hitting fuel cut but consider getting an intake also...

Also why are you doing the 34mm flapper mod on the 14b..

There is no need to upgrade your turbo unless you want to be lower than a mid 12's car. All you need is to upgrade those injectors (used 550's cause someone is going larger than 14b, 16g, or T28) and a used S-AFC. I would try for an S-AFC II if not for the 12 points over the 8 points of adjustability, but you can also save 2 different fuel settings.

Thanks for the quick replies.

98RedGs- My mod list wasn't in any certain order. I know I need to have a real boost gauge in the car before turning up the boost :)

As for the intake, I hadn't even considered it. I was just going to use a drop in K&N. But now that I did some looking I see Dejon makes a whole bunch that are pretty nice...specifically the CIP-1gM...which they to use with 1gM DSM & GM MAS Curved Intake Pipe (sizes 2.75" 3" & 3.5") Use this with side mount IC's and a MAS before the turbo.

Should the 2.75" be sufficient?

I guess you don't think the flapper mod is neccesary? I was going to do it because Slowboy was offering it as part of a porting package and figured I could try to eliminate boost creep before it happens. What are your thoughts?

Midnght- Upgrading the turbo isn't on my list any time soon but at some point it will be.

Yeah, I was just giving you some insight as to the potential you have already under the hood. Check out this article and you will see what is needed to make your "almost stock" 1G awd a pretty mean street machine. :thumb:

Thanks bud...I might have to run down to the track and me some of the high octane gas...I always did like the way it smelled when I put it in my old car :D
