gear problem

ok so all was fine and well today until i noticed a slight difficulty into second gear. Usually it will do that from time to time , never noticed it bad till today, but it stopped doing it . Then i park my car at walmart and it will not go into second , fourth , or reverse just the lower gears . Then i finally get the shifter to go down , not by force just moving it around abit ,however; it now moves alot further than it should and wont go into gears right , it wanders around andi have to search for a gear. I drove it home in second cause if i went out of gear it would take me 2 -3 minutes to find a gear. I was thinking sincros or something of that nature , but I'm not too keen with transmissions . So Any insight would be amazing .

The gears you mention are 2nd 4th and reverse. each one is on a different shaft. the one thing they have in common is the shift cable. that would be the first thing to check.

ill check the shift cable when i have time to that was my second thought on it all . It's not like it is stuck in a gear it will go into different gears i just have to search around for them now its like the whole lever is in its own area , not in a true neutral and not in a gear its hard to explain but shift cables are where ill start

well now it wont go into any gear .. and by that i mean it goes into the area where its supposed to go into gear but theres nothing its not like you cant push it into the gear slot you can but theres nothing in any gear

I am having the same problem and i dont know what to do about it
the other day i noticed when shifting to second that it seemed like it went way too far and the same for fourth.
all my gears work fine except second fourth and reverse does not work at all unless i turn the car off and then put it in reverse.
but it feels really bad when switching gears and most of the time when trying to go to second or fourth it just wont find it. if you ever figured out what was wrong with yours please pm me and let me know and ill do the same good luck to you man thanks

Mine did the same thing. The bolts that connect the shifter cables to the tranny were loose and some had actually fell out. There's really no way the tranny fell apart so quick unless you beat the shit out it right before this happened and then continued to do it. Check the cables at the base of the tranny.

thanks ill check it out but I wanna say and am not proud to say that when I noticed the problem. I was shifting to second from really ragging first I was pulling off my street burning my tires at 7k rpm bafore I shifted but I shifted smooth I didnt slam through gears.

i think i figured out what it is i looked and the shift cable is slipping out of the bracket when i shift i have to figure out how to keep it in there and i think that will fix the problem

Ok so I figured out why the cable is not staying in the mounting bracket.
There is suppose to be a U shaped clip to hold it in on the inside of this bracket and I guess it fell out.
So here is the fun part I get to find or make one now and I have already been to the local Pull A Part and they only have automatic eclipse's.
So there was my problem and I hope this post will help someone in the future thanks for the help guys

Im just glad that the transmission is still good i was fearing that so much I better take it easy on my car
