problem with 3rd gear

i just purchased a 99 eclipse and while driving the other day i went to shift to 3rd and it made a quick grind noise as if the clutch wasnt fully in but it went into gear just had the grind noise for a quick second while engaging it does this everytime i shift from 2nd to 3rd or 4th but not from 3rd to 4th directly. now today it did it the first time going from 2nd to 3rd but after would not go into 3rd gear just vibrates my hand with no noise still can shift to 4th though. i think its the synchros went bad on 3rd and starting to on 4th. please help thanks

It could be your not going to know for sure until you take it apart and see whats going on.

Yup, that sounds just like shot syncros to me. Are you shifting into the gears hard/fast? Or just like you were driving normally?

normal shifting i hold i and it just shakes i was thinking about buying some synchro mesh for it. cause i can put it in 3rd when the cars not running, and the first time i run it the tranny will shift into 3rd fine just with a grind but always lose it after a short drive

Sounds like syncros are shot, been there with bad trannys after a while they break.

It sounds to me that once your tranny warms up and everything starts expanding from the heat that stuff starts shifting. pull the tranny out and check everything and see whats going on with it.
