Ask TRE? I'm running Pennzoil Syncromesh in my OE transmission -- works great and I doubt the stage one needs a different oil (otherwise RP 75-90?) 10W-30 is pretty standard. My '90 GSX has almost 140Kmi on it, so I decided to switch from 10W-30 Mobil 1 to 10W-40 Mobil 1 "High Mileage".

no no no no no. do NOT buy tranny fluid from autozone. Our trannies require GL-4 gear oils, while most gear lubes nowadays are GL-5. Now, you may be thinking "GL-5 sounds like a higher standard, why not?". GL-5 oils have additives that make them more "slippery". With these additives, your synchro blocker rings will not grab your gears like they should, and lead to premature synchro failure. Redline makes GL-4 gear lube(MT-90) is what you want and i believe that Amsoil also makes GL-4 gear lube. Jack's transmissions sells redline, and i believe summit racing does also. I can't recall what the name of the amsoil lube was. GL-5 can only be used in our transfer cases and rear diffs.

I would run Valvoline's Synthetic or Castrol Syntec over the royal purple. Royal purple is expensive and it doesn't any higher sulfur/phosphorus content to justify it.

Valvoline VR1 and Vavlvoline NSL Synthetic both have higher zinc/phosphorus counts than Royal Purple, and are a good bit less costly.

I always thought GL-4 vs GL-5 was because GL-5 had corrosive properties and would eat syncros.

So a full synthetic would be the only option.

John at TRE recommends the redline products. Use the MT-90, its a great product. I use the cocktail mixture of 2 MT-90's and one MTL. Alot of people run this mixture with great results. Call John and ask him, he will be more then happy to explain all of this in greater detail.

And for the oil, I only run Brad Penn in my car. Stuff is amazing and not very expensive.

FWIW -- I've been running Syncromesh for roughly eight thousand miles now and my GSX shifts better than when the car was new (less notchy generally, but especially into first). Synthetic is not required, though obviously, many use it. I'm using Syncromesh in the gearbox and transfer case plus RP in the differential (decided to splurge in that one spot . Pep Boys was my supplier and their prices are fine. Personally, I see no problem at all with going to Autozone. You can spend all kind of money on the fluids, the question is whether you need to in order to get good performance. IMO, no !

Red Line is what I am using.

I don't think that you can find better oil then that.
