First off i have a 93 Eagle Talon, 1.8 SOHC....

My RPM guage quit working after i put a new alternator in. Along with that, my Temp guage reads cold all the time and my oil pressure gauge reads low all the time... Even after i have driven it for and hour the needle for the temp always stays on the lowest line or a little above. It never gets to the second line. RPMs always stay on zero, and it never moves.

Another thing is when I start my car up, it idles fine but then i go out and stop at a light or something then take off, my belts will squeak through 1st and as soon as i put it in 2nd it goes away. The belt tension is right where it needs to be as well. Anyone know whats wrong there?

Thanks...

Well, the temp gauge is easy. It's a spade connector that hooks to the thermostat housing. If the temp gauge NEVER moves, check that. If it moves a bit (say up to the first line, or between the first and vertical, but never gets anywhere near vertical), then it sounds like your thermostat is stuck open. Replace it. Nine bucks at Autozone.

Oil pressure is supposed to be between the first and second line during idle, possibly a bit over the second line during accelleration. I'd check the oil level first, if it's reading low for some reason.

Tachometer, can't tell you. Loose ground?

As for the squeak, let your car warm up a minute or two before you start driving. :b Standard 'how to take care of your vehicle' fare, that many don't seem to have ever learned (mostly people riding their turbo cars hard immediately, not giving time for the rings to seat or turbos to lubricate.. the latter not being an issue in your case, though the former still is).

The rpm tach could be a bad coil ive seen it before the gauge will usually jump or it just wont work make sure you check your connections first
