Just got a 96 talon with the 420a non-turbo 2.0. It is my first dsm and the previous owner was neglectful... Needless to say I want to go through and replace all gaskets. Oil pan, head, valve cover etc. I will also replace the timing belt. I am looking for advice on which brand and gaskets/timing belt to get. I read that there is a specific head gasket that works well because the stock setup wears out prematurely. If you have any advice or tips for me an my first good weekend project let me know. Also if there is anything else I should replace while I'm doing all of this let me know. Thank you and god bless.:rocks:

OEM gasket work well, i have had good luck with felpro's too. if you plan to boost it later on an MLS headgasket would be a good thing to do as well as head studs. As for timing belt, if you wanna spend some coin the blue gates belts are nice but the oem ones work just as good IMO . plugs and wires might be a good idea too, ngk plugs and wires work well with these cars

I go with OEM Mitsubishi gaskets for everything, I just feel the most secure with them. I haven't had the best of luck with fel pro so personally I don't recommend them, but there are a ton of people on here who swear by them, and especially for the 420a they seem to love them. Also, Just so you know, technically an MLS headgasket would not be an aftermarket choice for your car, they came with them from the factory. Hope this helps

Make sure if you go with a MLS gasket for the head that you also have the block decked other wise you could be pulling the head off again when it doesn't sit right. Also OEM gaskets are probably the best bet but i have never had a problem with any of felpro's gaskets either. For a timing belt I would just get a gates Kevlar timing belt and never look back.

Actualy a mls headgasket stands for multi layered steel, im guessing they make them so thick because of the back corner of the head dont seat right, due to the longer head stud. U have to machine the head so the mls will fit. What i did is get a good normal gasket frOMGates racing and arp studs, jus grind a millimeter or wo off that one back bolt so it dont bottom out. That was 38k ago and not one drop of any kind of liquid has escaped. Oh, and dont forget the copper coat!
