Ok I just purchased a FP3065 recently and am going to retune my car. I am running DSMLink and have a question for all you fwd guys with nice sized turbos. Are any of you guys using the studderbox option to launch? What RPM are you launcing at, with or w/out slicks and what kind of spinning are you getting/ 60ft times? Just curious where to set my studderbox with this particular turbo. The car will be mostly a street car. Not a daily driver but a weekend warrior;) . So needless to say Ill be most likely running drag radials. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks from the guy who will soon be looking for traction.

but, YOUR NAME, ITS EVOIII POWER!!!!!

I personally would launch at a high rpm and just hope that that large turbo won't have time to spool and you will still get some decent traction. Thats one thing about the word tune, its normally after the word test, as in test and tune. Since every set up is different, your just going to have to experiment with different launches until you find one that slams you in the back of your seat, but keeps you moving throughout first and second (and sometimes you might even have traction problems in third) at a nice pace. I remember how that guy with the 450 whp stock block 2g broke into the 11's. even though he is awd, he bounced it off the rev limiter a few times in first gear so his shift to second would be at a more realistic speed. if your wheels are spinning really badly in first and you put it into second, they still wont have much traction since your wheels have already been broken loose.

Yeah the evoIII is for the motor. Unfortunately I dont have the chassis to go along with that. My main concern is the studderbox. I dont want to set it to where Im launching at 5k and then have to get a new chip to have me launch at 3k. Just trying to see if anyone has had experience using the studderbox/big turbo combo on a fwd. I plan to make enough power to rape the awd's in my area even being fwd so need to invest in mucho suspensiono. I dont want to be a freeway killer as thats dangerous and I dont condone street racing. The closet track to me is an 1/8th mile so I am going to NEED good 60ft. times to get a good e.t. Im hoping that this turbo will spool perfectly in time for me to have grabbed traction and just keep going. Im sure a really stong clutch/pressure plate are in the works here.

From past experiance with my buddys Fwd...There is no way youl hook up in 8th hardly...Maybe at the very end....Butany ways back to what you ask he had aem ems and launched his fwd at about 5500-6k with some stickey tires...it still spun badly

I would recommend getting a dual stage boost controller. Also how much throttle you give your car at the launch is'nt nearly as important as the clutch release. You could hold your rpm's at 8000rpms and still not spin real bad if you slip the clutch right. Just make sure you have a descent amount of rpms and feel the car. When you feel the tires breaking loose slow down the clutch release a little. The key to a good launch in a fwd is slipping the clutch. With a FP3065, if it is tuned right, you will break traction from a 50mph roll. So a dual stage will definately benefit you.

That turbo with a 2 step is probably going to build 15-20 psi on the staging line, I hope you have an LSD and some good sticky tires?

I'm going axles, slicks and a stage 2 shep tranny this year looking for 1.6-1.7 60 foots. Well see what happends? I'm trying to run 30+psi and a 50 shot :rocks:

I don't have experience with a big turbo like yours, but whatever you do...GET SLICKS. Even on my FWD with a big 16g at 18psi they are needed. So a big turbo like that will still probably roast drag radials, killing your 60'. And like missouri_dsm stated, its all about slipping the clutch on the launch. Keep the rpm up and it'll surprise you when you feel how much traction a FWD can have...good luck with it

Bottles are for babies!!!!!! hahah. nah Im just all about boost. I dont need no nitrous. I plan on running appx. 30 psi when im racing. Around town probably down in the mid to low 20's depending on the dyno sheets. Still interested to see if anyone runs the studderbox on fwd though. Thanks for all the input thus far.

fwd stutter box...3600rpm...releases at 6mph...nitto 555r drag radials 245x55x16. With 330whp cut 1.77 60fts No LSD. I want LSD, and a 24.5x8.5x15 slick and get in the 1.60s...I have a ACT 2100 because the 2600 is way too grabby and you cant slip it. I probably wear it out more for sure. but i havent noticed a problem on the street yet. You cant really throttle it because 1st gear goes so quick when your spinning so you kind of just ride the clutch along.

edit: the tires are set at 14 to 16lbs of air

I have a 3065 on my Mirage. I have a fwd dsm turbo tranny with an open diff. With the two-step set at 5,500 I was able to get 1.7 60's. That is on 24.5'' MT ET Drags at 11psi.

EDIT: I added some videos to the video section

I've pretty much given up on getting a good time at the track...i'm not putting sticky tires on my car unless I get an LSD. First isn't so bad until high RPM's then 2nd is insta redline so that mean's I have to go 50% throttle so I won't atleast bog when I shift into 3rd.

Thats some good driving. Exactly what I was looking for. I know my biggest decision is gonna be my clutch. I have to do a lot of research as to what Im going to get. The car will see the track maybe twice a month MAX. Its only a weekend warrior also, so driveability is not a huge issue. I just want what works. I plan on making about 400+ hp so I can, with slicks, achieve sub 1.8 60ft, and low 8 to high 7 sec. 1.8th hopefully.
