ok so heres the story, i have a 98 gst with a 6 bolt swap, auto. went to the track this past weekend, and could not launch my car for my life. i must have read for hours the night before on how to launch it, and brake launching it, my car WOULD NOT stall past 2k, it just stuck there. I could not build boost, so my launch and times were terrible, on my 14b. any reason my car would not go past 2k? i did everything correct

put it in neutral, revved till about 6k, let it drop to normal, felt brake pedal depress, then held brake and gas, and would not go past 2k. car is running good, new oem belts and gaskets, all maintainence done, 6 bolt swap

Whats this neutral 6k revving stuff?

Just put it in drive, hold the brake and go WOT. When you fell the car wanting to go forward, hold just a little longer, and the let the brake out... I find I have the best launches when I let the car lurch forward just an inch before letting off the brake completely.

This method has worked great for me on my 16g.

DON'T REV YOU CAR IN NEUTRAL AND DROP IT INTO DRIVE!!! Go to the line in drive, hold down the brakes, press the accelerator and build boost/revs, and when the light goes green release the brake pedal.

He's saying he revs it in neutral while pushing pedal as hard as he can to build leverage and possibly more holding power at the line. He lets the rpms drop before going back in drive, not neutral drop
I used to do it and it seemed to help some on the two a/ts I had.
I was getting ~32-3300rpm and 21psi launches on the 14b

exactly, i would never drop my car to drive from neutral after revving it. i did exactly as u toofast, but my car WOULD NOT go past 2k. I can build boost at 2800-3000 easy on my 14b, which i was aiming for, but it would not do it.

although i just found out, since i have an auto with a 6 bolt, when i got my motor installed we had to use the kiggly 6 bolt flexplate, of course. i just found out that my mechanic used that plate, and the original stock plate that came on the trans, which means there is 2 plates there instead of 1, which i think there should only be 1? could this extra little plate make my car do this? i think it is maybe only a few cm thick, car runs fine dailying it no problems with trans shifting or anything.

anyone? could this be my problem?

by the way, just found out the extra plate is called the starter plate, fyi

Hmm, never thought of that? Maybe it can't? But if that is it.. I need to get a new one bad. My pass of a 16.5 being my best in this car will not cut it for me, at all. But I could not get a launch or build boost. My car has all the major bolt ons and a 14b, at 15 psi, I should have easily had mid to high 14's.

But does anyone have any input on if the starter plate should be on there as well as the kiggly plate?

iirc the kiggly plate is a direct replacement. just check on their website..

Hmmm, maybe that extra plate is causing my car to run this way and affecting my performance, I don't really see how it would though, I guess I will have to find out. Thanks bro
