Just do what you do but when the wheels start to spin pull the ebrake instead of letting the car go forward and it should set there and smoke em'.:rocks: Unless your clutch is worn out and just slips. Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong in any shape, form,or fashion.

If you have enough power... Drop the clutch from a stop in second gear. If you get them spinning in second, they will spin faster and make more smoke. They will also be able to smoke longer before the car hooks up and takes off. This will only work if the car has enough power (you only need enough to brake the tires loose and keep them spining). I used to do big smoky 8,500rpm 2nd gear ebrake burouts in my CRX with a little B16a (No torque). Be ready to brake somthing in you old ass car.

haha ooh the b16... I had the a2 in my ex. the little engine that could. I had a nonvtec b18 in my hatch years ago. It was like a friggen gokart.

If your tires are worn and you just wanna dick around, put some antifreeze on the ground under you front tires.. set the ebrake and let them loose. The antifreeze will help them startup easier so itll be less on your drivetrain.

Easiest way to do a burn out is just pull the ebrake first as this will lock the back tires, then just rev it up abit & let out the clutch. I also found out setting my lanch control at 4500 on my dsmlink, which spooled my evoIII to 5 or 6 psi creates an instant smoke show when you let the clutch out, no ebrake required :sneaky: ROFL

For lanuch it depends on your tires & your power, since your not making much compared to the turbo guys you should be able to get away with a higher lanch rpm, that is depending on your tires. You want to rev it up to a constant rpm, when you keep on pressing the gas on & off its just for show most of the time you won't lanch as well as if you kept the rpms constant unless you get luckey. I'd start around 3500 rpms & see what happens. Don't just dump the clutch, you will usually bog & then when u get power back, just spin. Let the clutch out nicely (not so slowely that you can smeel clutch burning after you lanch) while applying more & more gas till you can go wide open throttle. You want to keep it on the edge just before you lose traction. Sure squeeling your tires sounds cool but it does nothing to help in the acceleration department, just makes you slower. If traction is no problem lanching at 3500 rpm, step it up abit till you start to get to uncontrollable wheel spin.

Like stated above, I launched my fwd cars by reving to about 3000 rpms and doing a quick slip on the clutch. I only spun slightly and got some wheel hop as well. Of course I had no mounts or anything to prevent wheel hop so I know that would happen.

alright thanks a lot guys...and yeah again I'm probably not going to do a burnout considering how old it is...I was just curious..and one more thing about the launch...I planned on running my car at the track for the first time this summer...when your sitting at the line and revving at say around 3500 rpms, do I need to press the brake at all or is the surface flat enough to where the car stays stationary without brake..I'd much rather learn this now then embarrass myself my first time haha

LOL.. a thread on "how to do a burnout". Lol. Would you like to know how to ride a bicycle as well? LOL jk.. but this is rather humerous.

hey if you do burn out and you start mad wheel hop( your car bouncing instead of staying on the ground) get off it instantly. that is bad for our car and espessialy yours with its age.

I dont really remember the first 60' time from the first clip (the maroon 2g), thats really the only good one of the video the other one I bogged.

The best ever 60' i had was a 2.222 with all of my mods. (A whole 2 times)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uJpSRiHs7wo

I generally try to stage first so I can find the point where the clutch lets out and the car starts to move then I push the clutch in just a little and rev it up to around 3500-4 and start to feather out the clutch when that second yellow comes up.

man, my best 60' was a 2.57 i believe, I really need practice but first what are some good tires to buy, I just need 2 tires to put on my stock 16's for when I go to the track. and im also on a budget too.

The tires I had are the ones that came with the car...they look like some regular tires. After I got a feel for launching the car I lowered the air pressure.

I had a video of my buddies gst busting a 1.5 60' but then missing 2nd gear, Ill see if I can find it on one of my hdd.

Good luck with traction in first (or second for some of us) gear........

My best advice would be to either get an LSD insert (not expensive itself, but labor is), or buy a dual stage boost controller (about the same price but easier to install yourself)

Just getting grippier tires isn't going to bring your 60ft's under 2.000
The widest tires you can safely run on the stock 16X6 wheels is 225 and that's pushing it....it makes a small difference in traction

It takes alot of practice, and then being able to perform it on the track...

2.1-2.2 60ft's are about the best times we'll get on FWD's, unless you have an LSD/Dual Stage Controller/Godlike Driver/racing wheels&slicks.......its something we have to live with, which sucks because your launch will make or break your quarter time...

i sort of dissagree, you dont need an lsd and a dual stage boost controller, all you need is a good pair of slicks and a good driver, my car has no lsd and stock axles, just a little slip out the hole and 1.7s are easily attainable, i was getting 1.7s when i was around the low 300whp range as well. i just baby it a little more now that it has more power.

i have 245/45/16 NITTO DR's on the car for street use and they fit fine on the gst spider rims.:thumb: :dsm:

thanks for all the info because I was getting really frustrated with fwd. I went to the track last night and put down a 14.0 @ 103. My friend's STI did a 12.96 @ 104 so Im starting to think if I can really get my 60' down better than a 2.5 I should be in the 13s.

I clicked out a 2.23 60ft time with poop tires (im fwd at the moment) and ran a blistering 14.3.....@117 haha.....spun the whole way through 3rd and part of 4th :<

Piece of mind, an evo 8 was there running consistent 11.6's @ 116-117

MarcMan, where do you go to race? There are some srt4 guys down here at Shelor's putting down some good 60fts on M&H slicks. Granted there cars weigh less but one is running 8.0's on stock turbo w/ upgraded intercooler and boost controller...should ride down sometime and check it out

EDIT:: Forgot to mention, but I hope you figured it out, it is only 1/8th mile times

I found this thread with a quick search. Seems to hold some good info.

And how could we forget Jim McKenna's explanation in the Top 10 VFAQ section seen here (scroll down a bit)?
