Hey guys I am currently in the middle of building a FWD turbo eclipse. It was originally a n/t 2.0 and i keep having people tell me fwd dsm's are junk and cant be built, so i wanted to prove them wrong. I dropped in a 6-bolt with stock 1g rods with evo8 pistons on them for an 8.8 compression. New bearings water pump and such. I have a total of $1,600 into this car including buying it. I have a big16g, an evo8 fmic, stock injectors, MAFT, ported manifold and such, stock 1g awd down pipe to stock exhaust (cat back). Walbro 255 installed with -6 fuel line tank to filter, new valve guide seals, and thats about it. I am wondering what you guys think i should do, or where i should go from here. I have 450 miles on the motor right now holding at 10lbs for break in purposes. As suspected the tranny is garbage but its a dsm what do u expect. I also have a act 2600 clutch as well. So any feedback from here would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance :dsm:

Im just looking to keep up with some awd's. Just because they say this cant be done.. maybe run like a mid 13 or so, and my budget is still on low spending as you can see how much i have spent so far..

You can keep up with AWD's without much dificulty. The only real problem you will have is traction.

Start looking into upgrading the suspension so you can get more of that power to the ground. Sticky tires, upgraded shocks and springs, poly motor mounts to minimize wheel hop, poly control arm bushings will also help with traction.

Edit: You mentioned the tranny being trashed. If it's pulled or you are going to pull it consider an LSD also. They can help tremendously.

Is dropping a 4g63 engine into a 1g the same amount of work as it would be if I was putting it into a 2g?

mostly just wiring issues which all you would really have to do is switch out the wiring harness which isnt really that much of a big deal, if im correct?

yea i kno traction is going to by biggest overcome but im not still sure if theres anything else performance i would need to keep up..?:thumb:

Other than traction like previously stated there is nothing performance wise that is better on the AWD. Actually the AWD is heavier so it takes more to get it going.

FWD are not junk. they just have more limitations. I'd like to know how you only spent $1,600 so far??? Unless you already had some parts. Watch that tranny! 1G FWD trannys are not the toughist. I agree with everyone else, traction, traction, traction!

Well i was thinking of ordering 272's and take my gears into the 8's possibly 9's (rpms) but im afraid that, that will cause more issues for traction.. i dunno thats why i'm on here

ya i had a good bit of the parts and i have awesome friends to hook me up with some stuff too. Yes these trannies aren't the greatest, as of now i dont have 2nd and 4th synchro. But i can overcome that.:beatentodeath:

someone was telling me that the 2g Talon's engine bay is nothing like the TSI engine bay is, that I'd have to cut the fire wall and stuff. I know I'd have to change the engine mounts, but that's fine, it was cutting the firewall that I was worried about.

Getting bigger cams and reving your engine to 8 or 9 grand wont have an adverse effect on traction unless you plan on launching at an insane RPM. If anything bigger cams will help you with traction because it will move your power band up higher in the RPM range.

no. converting a 2gnt to a 4g63 is a lot harder than converting a 1g, as the 1g's came with naturally aspirated 4g63's. the 2g's came with a chrysler 420A.

if you want to go with forced induction on a N/A engine, it would be easier and more cost efficient to turbocharge the 420A. hahn racecraft is a very reputable company that makes great kits for the 2gnts, imo.

gettin off the subject here a little... but my next question is, what turbo would you recommend to go with? I kno i need something that spools later in rpms so i can get traction before spooling but not sure what would be good?

Have you considered upgrading your suspension, stronger bushings, motor mounts?

i was going to do solid motor mounts in the front and back and poly in the left and right and as far as my suspension is concerned my buddy is getting rid of his agx's so i might snag those for the fronts because his is awd. other than that bushings are not on my list just yet..

I'm in the same boat you are in. I'm going with a PTE SCM5031e. It looks like you're looking for about the same goals as I am so that should suite your needs as well.
