does anyone know if there are any functional air damn type hoods for sale for the 2G, so you can take down the temp in the engine bay without making the hook fly off? i'v seen people cut into their carbon fiber and make their own but i'v seen some of those same people a month later with a sad story of how their hood flew off on the freeway.

you 2g guys have it lucky, there are numerous hoods for you guys, there are close to none for us, i know there is one that has an evo 8 style vent, and as for the hood flying off, get good hood pins and you should be fine...

Carbontrix makes some nice CF hood exhausts. They create a low pressure zone to help remove air from inside the engine bay.

those are nice hoods but would you see any reasonable gain from it

In terms of being a forced induction air damn, not at all. But when it comes to reducing under-hood temperature, it's probably very efficient. From the pic in Dave99gst's sig, it looks like the vent is right over the exhaust manifold. That would do wonders on my car.

Here is a little bit better pic - ( not much but a little bit )

Is that vent on the stock hood? How much bracing are you cutting, and further to that, when it rains/snows, do you get a puddle on the valve cover?

If your looking into this thread as a performance aspect, i would just remove your passenger headlamp, being that your turbo intake is right behind it. I know some people pull it off at the track.

I believe DSMJim does this, but I'm not too sure. Sorry if I'm thinking of the wrong person. Good luck with your search on that hood. :)

i'm not looking to get more air into the intake, i'm looking for a way to take heat out of the engine bay, so a hood designed like the Evo * hood would work well for what I'm trying to do because the vents are right above the exhaust manifold, problem is with that when it rains I increase my chance to crack the manifold if metal cools down too quickly and stress is put on it it will crack (Fantastic 4 analogy). i dunno the way i'm starting to think is to cut into my CF hood and insert my own vent that I can cap off if I want.

The vent is positioned over the exhaust manifold.

You get more rain coming in from underneath the car than would ever come in through that vent, especially when you're moving. The design of it forces air to exit the engine bay.

In that case, I would simply recommend a heat shield.

Sorry I was thinking in terms of cold air coming in. With an airbox that hood would work well but not for what the original post meant.
