i know that turbo 1g's have a top speed of about 160mph, and that 2g's (turbo and N/T) have top speed of 140mph or so. I was also reading that the fuel cut off is at about 7500 RPM's. and above the rev limiter speeds, the car shuts down. What ways can you get rid of this? And also, I've heard of "Hacking the MAF" is that where you cut some of the mesh out of the bottom of the MAF? or is there a different way to hack the MAF?My point is, how can i eliminate these limiters and how do i "hack" the MAF and is it bad if i do some of these?

You have your concepts all mixed up. The rev limiter is set at 7500 for these cars. The only to change that is by having the ecu rechipped (if you're lucky enough to have a car with an eprom equipped ecu).

That's different from fuel cut, which occurs when the airflow count from the MAS maxes out. The ecu doesn't know what to do after that and it shuts down the injectors. Fuel cut can happen before the engine reaches redline, and it's causes are leaks along the intake piping, excessive boost, or an AFC adjusted too richly.

'Hacking' the MAS involves removing the lower honeycomb of the sensor. That reduces the airflow count and prevents the MAS from maxing out and throwing the ECU into fuel cut. Hacking the MAS will cause your car to run leaner since the airflow count is lower, and in most cases, your idle will become unstable.

No offense but your profile says you don't even have a dsm yet. Why don't you get a car first and read up A LOT. Taking out the honeycombs is something that I wouldn't take lightly and I don't consider myself a newbie by any means. You just open up a whole new world of issues.

If you raise the rev limit on stock valve springs you will probably float a valve and cause lots of damage like bent valves. AWD 1g is lucky to do 140mph

the reason im asking is because i have alot of friends with DSM's and they dont kno jack about em and they want me to help, so i gotta learn crap to help and these are sum of the things they want to do. I dont kno if its good to fo them right away(probably should do sum tuning and the free mods), so i gotta learn man beacause i dont have the privilege of having mechanics in my family and my parents are against me getting my own 5speed and im pretty much the only one in my family who ever gets their hands dirty, so i want to learn as much as i can so when i get the car, i kno what i can and cant do to it. but i should be getting my own dsm soon, by February at the latest.

I see what your saying and good luck to you, but can we work on our grammar please?LOL Anyways, dsm's shouldn't need to rev past redline. Lot's of import guys are all about the revs, but dsm's make great power just about anywhere. If you want to give your buddies some tips, tell them about the free mods and the cheap MBC's. Hell, if you wanna sound like a pimp, tell your buddies with 2G's about the 1G BOV that's cheap as hell and makes a night and day difference. 1G BOV($40)+MBC($15)=BIG GAIN

Also, the MAF can be hacked on 1G's. DO NOT hack the MAF on 2G's. Not needed. Fuel cut is BAD. If that's happening, have your buddies do a boost leak check or turn down their boost.

Good luck
