Fuel Tank/Pump Hissing? 190 pump

Well, The car has a 190 fuel pump, and for some reason the past week I got the car running, I never noticed a hiss from the Fuel pump/tank area until yesterday, with the car running only it sounds like a tire leaking air, so I thought exhaust leak and felt around, but my ehaust is all brand new, gasketed and everything.

So then I stuck my head under the car and my ear to the tank, and hear an audible whine, but then theres a hiss in there??

Wtf is that?

Yeah its a Walboro 190....Its like a hiss in the gas tank

You could remove the pump to see it theres anything wrong. I recommened getting it re-wired it tends to quiet them down.

Did you cap off the charcoal canister area, I'm not sure if thats exactly what it is but theres that port there in the engine bay that lets out pressure from the gas tank, if thats capped off the only way for the pressure to escape could be a small hole say at the top of the tank or maybe the cap itself, just food for thought, thats just what first came to mind.

No I didnt touch anything in the charcoal area yet, I was going to remove that crap though, but not now that somethings hissing

Well im sure the rewire would help with the whining...but this hiss sounds like an air leak, i dont think a non-rewired pump would make a hiss?

Isn't the tank supposed to be under pressure (hence the special fuel tank cap)? I do believe there are some rubber vacuum lines in the charcoal canister system. Couldn't it then be that the pressure is leaking thrue one of those lines?

(I didn't have hissing, but I did have a strong fuel fume smell coming from the tank area because of this... )

I can only think of a few things that would make a hiss. First, there could be a leak at the clamps for the pumps hose connections. The hiss is the leak in the fuel. Second , the fuel return from the injection system bypassing lot's of fuel. Lastly, it could be a bearing/housing /winding interference that you hear. The pumps will both whine and make a hiss noise when they start to get tight. Is the fuel pressure ok? Tres...

The pressure is supposed to run down those lines to begin with and out through the bay, that way pressure doesn't continue to build, why they made it release in the bay is beyond me but, as for the OP thats all I could come up with, how loud is the hissing?
