Belleville,
I am soon planning to upgrade the fuel pump however my 93 has 2 broken studs after last years run-in with a leaking hardpipe. The pump assembly is currently bolted down with remaining studs and RTV'd (yes, the fuel compatible kind). I'm not sure this will be the best way to secure down a 255lph pump especially after another removal.
I have read the posts on repairing broken studs and am not too excited about working that close with gas fumes and sparks mixed. I would prefer the extra effort to remove the tank, perform the required work, then reinstall.
I just picked up a 92 TSI FWD as a parts car for my 93 TSI AWD. (Finally got my 6-bolt!) I am hoping that someone will know if the fuel tanks are the same between these two cars. This way I can work on one while still being able to drive the other.
