So I have been having problems with my talon lately. The check engine light wasn't turning on anymore on I was going through a bunch of different possibilities and it turns out the bulb is just dead. I pulled the codes and found out I was getting a fuel pump code. I just replaced the fuel pump and filter about 3 months ago with a new one because the car had been sitting for 6 years. So anyways I was checking out the fuel pump and realized I don't hear it prime. The car will start and then die a couple seconds later which leads me to think the fuel pump is shutting off. I pulled the fuel line that connects to the pump and cranked the car for a second and fuel came out. So what I am trying to figure out is could this fuel pump have something wrong with it or is my fpr bad. I think I might just take this pump out and get it replaced since it's still under warrenty

Ok I will check it out tomorrow and see if it's bad. So i pull off the small hose that goes to the solenoid not the larger one that's about 1/4"?

It should not prime. The pump is only activated when the CAS is turning.

If fuel comes out the 1/4" return line, then you probably have adequate fuel pressure. If it comes out the small vaccum hose, then your FPR is bad and you are having flooding, or at least a rich condition.

Could a bad FRP cause the issue that I am having? I know that when the car did run I was having problems of running rich and only getting about 15mpg on a completely stock 1g.

Yes, a bad FPR could cause to high of fuel pressure or not enough fuel pressure, which would result in it dying. But since you said it's getting shit for mileage I would assume it's running way rich. I would check out that FPR.

Alright I will take a look in the morning and see if there is fuel in the vacuum hose. Where would be a good place to buy an afpr if I were to get one?

So I checked the fpr today and the vacuum hose didn't smell like gas and there wasn't any gas in the hose. I wasnt able to take it off when it was running because I don't have enough time before the car dies. Would it be fine if I left the vacuum hos off and then started the car? Also I was wondering if I should go pick one up from the junkyard or if I should order one off eBay. I can get one from the junkyard for $10, is there a good afar that I can get for cheap? I saw some on eBay for $22 but I wasn't sure which brands are good and which are not

EDIT:
So I pulled the vacuum line off the FTP and started the car and there wasn't any gas coming out of it so I don't think it's bad. What else could be causing my problem?

Does anyone have any ideas? I'm stumped and really want to get this fixed :banghead: Is it possible that my fuel filter is clogged again? I just changed it in the middle of December along with the fuel pump. I just replaced the fuel pump again today because it was under warranty and my computer was telling me there was a fuel pump problem. I reset the ECU and now there are no codes. I checked the FPR and there wasn't any gas coming out of the vacuum hose but I was thinking about replacing it anyways because one from the junkyard is only $10. If I can find a good AFPR that's not too expensive I will get that instead.

No I'm not sure it's the fuel system but that's just what it seems like. I know nothing is missing because my talon ran for about a month, then after I reset my ECU it stopped running. I don't know if it was just coincidence that it started happening when I reset the ECU or if it is a problem with the ECU. I will read up on how to check the MPI relay tonight and check that tomorrow. How do I tell if the egr is sticking open?

I checked the MPI relay today and it tested fine. I am stumped :banghead: I found out that it is fuel related because I was pinching the fuel line after the filter and had someone start the car and I could feel it get fuel pressure for a couple seconds then loose fuel pressure and die. I really want to get my talon up and running again, it has been down for over a month now =(
