About two weeks ago I did a fuel pump rewire according to the 2g vfaq, and ever since then I have been having electrical problems. The car hasn’t been wanting to start, and been turning over very slowly like it would if the battery was dead but it’s always eventually started up until today.

Here is the problem…Now it’s act like the battery is completely dead and won’t start. There is no dome lights and no dash lights or any electricity at all, but if I jumpstart it with another car my car will start up and drive fine until I turn it back off and then it will seem like the battery is dead again.

The thing is, if I unplug the new fuel pump wire I ran from the battery everything else starts working normally. The battery reads 12.47 volts with a multi-meter at the battery and at the pump. I took the fuel pump cover off and checked my connections and all seems to be good, but when I did this I must have moved something right because I got partial power back but the car only started after a lot of cranking and died after a few seconds.

I know the first thing I should probably do is re-wire and re solder all my connections. Something is obviously wrong with the way I did it. But what the most likely cause of this could be? Do I have something backwards on the relay? Could it be the new ground I used isn’t good enough? Why would it work for two weeks then suddenly stop? Any help would be appreciated, I have till Monday to figure it out or I will be screwed without my car.

Thanks !!

Well I thought it might be the ground I used, so I used a wire tap to connect the old stock ground to the new ground wire and it started right up. It still hesitated to start, but that could be because the battery was low after playing with it so much. I'm going to redo everything once I get some more time.

I didn't have a drill so I used the bolt holding the rear seat in as a ground. I just filed the paint off around it and screwed it back down with the ground wire attached with an o ring.

And yes I used inline fuse by the battery. I ordered the re-wire kit from extrememotorsports awhile back so the parts I used where all good quality. (not radio shack)
