I was planning on replacing my fuel filter recently on my '90 Eclipse GS, so I looked in the trunk under the carpet where the manual (Haynes) said the 2.0l model fuel pump harness was, and alas, no harness. The manual said that the 1.8l models had the harness under the car near the tank, and didn't specify if the 2.0l was for both, or just the turbo models. So any kind of help is appreciated. Also, I'm thinking about swapping the engine from my '90 a/t to a 93 m/t. Is this going to be a straight-forward swap (LOL if that even exists), or will I need additional parts from either of the cars? Thanks for any help I can get.

The N/T DSMs have the fuelpump on the back side of the tank, you need to get under the car to get access.

For the swap, you should go through the engines basic checks (compression, any oil leaks, check oil for water, radiator for the smell of exhaust could indicate a blown headgasket)
While you have the engine out, Replace the main and rod bearings,Timing belt, idler pullies AND TENSIONER!!! Do not skimp here you will hate your self later.:sosad: Get a better manual (factory service manual on cd from Ebay)$5.00 +SH.
You may need a new flywheel (Summit sells Aluminum Fidanzas for $250.00+SH)Again you can find some on Ebay under $200.00 Look for the AWD Flywheel #161691 it will fit the N/T bellhousing and you will need a new clutch. There are flywheels for the N/T Trannys but they cost alot more (their is a dumb excuse for the price increase)

some components (CAS,Throttle body, flywheel) may not interchange. just check the pigtails before you install to the engine.

Good Luck,

Bill W.

Great, thanks for all the advice. Also, is there any way to make sure a m/t is in good running condition without having the engine running? The m/t Eclipse I'm thinking about buying has a blown engine which I'm putting my engine in place of, but I'd like to know that the transmission is still good. I really don't want to do a swap from a car with a dead a/t to a car with a dead m/t. >_< And also a good place to buy these engine components. I'd like to find somewhere to buy the whole deal, don't want to have to go to half a dozen different stores or web sites looking for all the parts.

No way to be sure with out driving or dissassembling it but you can drain the oil from the tranny and watch for metal shards in the oil, or hold a magnet in the oil flow to catch any that drain out, this is not a "for-sure-check" but it could give you an idea of the trannys condition.

If no shards are presant you can use a teliscopic magnet to reach in and try to grab any lying on the bottom of the case.

If you are confident that the tranny is in ok condition, refill it and put some lubeguard for M/T in it.

You can buy every thing you need from Ebay and a junkyard, you'll save some money as well!

Good Luck,

Bill W.

All of this sounds good, I'll keep everything in mind. Thanks again.
