i looked around on the forums and the tech articles real quick but none of them gave me a conclusive answer.

at what point do you need to rewire the fuel pump? I have picked up a parts car with an upgraded pump( i still need to pull it and ID which one it is) and i dont know what i need to do to put it in my car reliably. That is, do i need to buy seals or anything, should i rewire it while it is out?

I have a big 16g to put on my car along with larger injectors that i am steeling off of my parts car. Again i need to ID what injectors they are...

Until this weekend when i get to pull these parts I want to be thinking ahead and possibly ordering parts so i am ready to put them in my car during thanksgiving break.:dsm:

Its never a bad time to rewire the fuel pump. Stock if I remember correctly they get like 11.5V at the pump and once you rewire the pump you will get like 13V. With out the rewire your pump is not running at 100% efficiency.

ok just heard from the old owner that the parts car had a 55 walbro hi pressure pump with stock injectors on a 16g turbo, now im wondering if the stock fuel pressure regulator and stock injectors will deliver enough fuel to the 16g! anyone!:dsm:

also the rewire, i need to research better, but is that just replacing old wires with new ones, or actually rerouting some wires and changing the circuit?

He probally meant a walbro 255 pump. Do you know if you have a AFPR? If not your going to need one with that pump. Also stock injectors will be fine on stock boost but once you start turning up the boost upgraded injectors are a must. If you dont plan to turn it over 20 PSI then 550 injectors will be enough. If you plan to turn it up more than 20PSI go with 650's.

Now as for the fuel pump rewire. Check this out.

255 and the stock injectors is better than stock fuel pump & injectors hah. Anyways i'm in the same boat and if you wanna get something more than 16-17 psi reliable your gonna buy some 650's. Also get some data logging materials and or a wideband.

I'm running a 16g also with stock fuel....it sucks so def give that motor and fuel all it can stand!

I only have the stock fuel pressure regulator. Yes i did mean 255, i am pretty excited about my new stuff so im typing frantically.

Here is where im at. I have people telling me i can put on the big16g and run it at or below 14 psi. I want to make sure i am not going to hurt my engine so I want more advice about what the responsible reliable setup would be. I plan on getting injectors and dsm link but that is more towards the springtime. So if i have to wait until then so be it. but if i can throw the 16g on and have fun with it safely given certain limits(ie lowerboost) then i wouldnt mind doing that as i have heard i will really like the 16g over the 14b.

So i plan on putting in the 255 pump, but will it really help at all or will i need a fuel pressure regulator to avoid probelms? any suggestions on good decently priced AFPRs?
Ill keep reading but your guys feedback has bee really helpful so far, especially the earlier link. Keep it coming guys! thanks!:thumb:

Yes I would go with a AFPR, check the vendors on are site. Or you can click on the forums section at the top of the screen and hit view the forums then click on the vendor section. I think I remember seeing one of the vendors running a special right now on AFPR's. As for running low boost and being safe the only real way to make sure is to buy a logger and see exactly what your car is doing, they can be had or under $100. This is pretty important and you should look into buying one. Each car will respond different to the mods you put on them.

Yeah you need a AFPR, itll over run the stock regulator, or you could just sell the 255 and buy a 190 for probably cheaper than the AFPR, the 190 wont over run it and is good up to 400HP. The rewire involves a relay and some thicker wire. The relay is mounted near the pump. Its mainly a 10 gauge power wire w/in line fuse from the battery to relay, a ground from relay to chassis, and then cut the pump power wire and put 2 more wires on the relay with one going to each side of the cut power wire. You can make the kit yourself or pick one up on ebay for like $12, thats what I did, and it comes with instructions. Almost identical instructions are on VFAQ. If you get confused with the rewire PM me when it comes time for you to do it and I can explain it to you over the phone.

thanks snowbird, i think ill order the ebay kit. if i have Qs ill be sure to ask you.
i think im going to stay with the 255 and just get a fpr and dsmlink and injectors.

heres a quick Q what type of internal work needs to be done to the engine to handle 300 whp? i would like 300 whp but will stay with 300 crank hp if i need to significantly upgrade eveything. Ill be running short on cash as it is, and i want to do things right but i really dont need 300whp.
