1G fuel gauge reading full all the time

just what it says it reads full when it's not. I've had the sending unit out to make sure the float wasn't stuck and it's ok. any ne have this problem, please help.

I'd suspect a broken filament on the resistor winding. Replace the sender.

You did check both senders, right? There's one on each side.

I didn't know there were two to check. Do I need to replace the whole unit or just the part with the floater?

On a 1G? I don't think so. That's 2G only feature

I'm looking at buying a 93 Tsi AWD with this same problem. It reads full all the time but the low gas light comes on when it gets low. I remember there being a whole thread about this with a lot of input from defiant, but I did a search and couldn't find it. Anyone have any ideas?

On a 1G? I don't think so. That's 2G only feature

Oops, my mistake. The 1G has the goofy goiter on the tank.

Well, that cuts down on diagnosis time. Replace the sender.

You can try disconnecting the connector in the hatch and measuring the resistance of the sender before you pull the pump assembly again.

With the tank full on a AWD the two middle pins on the connector should measure about 3 ohms +-2 ohms and with the tank empty 110 ohms +- 7 ohms.
If it reads ok you need to look at the rest of the wiring, if it reads 0 ohms then make sure it isn't shorted where it goes through the cover.

Even if it read good full it's still possible that the float is hanging in the tank.

I checked it today and it read .2 ohms empty and full, and I didn't see anything wrong with the wires. I guess I'll need a new sending unit, thanks for the help guys.
