I'm looking into getting a fuel cell so I can always have race gas with me for when I'm on the bottle or want to run high boost. ( built motor ) Anwyays I have never installed one of these so I'm just wondering how you tap into the fuel system so it custs out fuel from the stock tank and uses the cell. Do the lines just get Y split and how do you switch from 1 to the other? Also I'd need 2 fuel pumps? Can you do a setup where you don't need tools to switch from 1 cell to the other?

I'm pretty sure most people running a fuel cell eliminate the gas tank all together. To avoid hassle and the added weigh.
Running both can be done i'm sure.
I would just look towards having the fuel cell installed and eliminate the stock tank. Does the fuel cell also have a drain like the stock tank??

This isn't exactly what you asked about but it sounds like your looking to do some work and spend a little bit of cash.

Instead of doing that you could look into running a propane injection system. Propane adds extra fuel, is something like 114 octane. a 5# bottle is reported to last a month or so and only costs a few dollars to refill. People use propane injection on Gasoline engines for reducing knock very effectivly. Its another bottle of course, people do indeed use it along side nitrous also. I'm not saying run out and do it...but look into it as it might be an alternative..and it sounds even cooler to tell them your running a nitrous and propane injection system..

well I want the stock tank to run pump gas on the street and the cell to run c16 if I decide to race it or on track days. I don't want to constantly have to run race gas or have to drain a tank of 93 octane and fill it back up with c16. I want to have a tank of each and then be able to switch between the 2...

Not as easy as it looks. First, you're going to have to buy Y fittings, not cheap. Second, how are you going to purge the fuel in the lines before using the other fuel? Third, how are you going to control which one is in use? And finally, one issue I'm not sure about, if you have a Y fitting, will the other fuel pump not in use hold the pressure while it's off?

If you want a cell, drop the tank. Run one gas tank.

Install your cell and put Y's in the line. You will need a ball valve on both sides so you can cut off the flow from one and add it to the other. You will then need a switch to cut the ground from your stock pump so it will not run, and another switch to start the pump for the cell. You will also need to Y and valve the return so your race gas return goes back to the cell.

Initally when you switch over you will have a bit of regular gasoline in the lines but very little after a second or two of the pump running it will start to circulate and you'll be running on race gas pretty well right away. The regular will return to the cell and just get mixed in, Its such a small amount it wont do anything. You will need an external walbro 255 and fittings to make this all happen.

Basically once all is said and done you flip a valve for feed and one for return for the race gas. And shut off your normal pump and start the race gas pump, that will convert the whole system over to the race gas cell. Start the car and verify your running and returning to the correct place. If you don't swtich the return you'll empty all your race gas into your regular fuel tank and run the cell empty in a matter of a few minutes.

I have seen it done but it's tricky and lots of lines etc. You also need to be very careful on the switch over to make sure that you have everything the way it should be. You wolnd't wanna hook up your regular gas again and start pumping it back to the cell and over flow it LOL.

ok yea thats the answer I was looking for. I have heard people do it and I heard it costs around $500 or so. I'm going to look into it some more and price everything out. I still don't "feel safe" with the propane idea.
