So yesterday was a nice test n tune at Norwalk. Michigan Buick club rented it out, and the track was prepped nicely. It was about 67-70 degrees the entire day, and sunny so that the track was warm. First run was a little disappointing, at 18psi the car launched well, and I pulled 1.76 short time and a 13.077 @ 104.71, not too bad but I was expecting maybe a little better at that psi. Anyways, checked the logs, was at about .90 O2 all 4 gears, so I leaned out the safc -10% across the board. Same boost, next run pulled a 1.84 60' and ran a 13.08 @ 106.56 so picked up a few mph. Back in the pits, I was able to turn the boost up since my O2's were still at about .90 across the board. So I turn the boost up a turn and a half, resulting in around 23-25psi. In between I ran my winter beater which was fun, only a 15.8 but at 92mph which was fun to see. So anyways, get back up to the line and pull a 1.71 60' and ran a 12.31 @ 113 mph so upping the boost definately was in a sweet spot. Checked my O2's after the run, still a little rich in the 1-2 gears but the others I was between .86-.88 which isn't bad. So next run I take out another 5% in the uppper rpm range 5K-7K. Ran again, 1.73 60' and clicked off a 12.33 @110mph so not exactly an improvement. Then the problems started, next run felt really good, in fact I spun all 4 wheels off the line, but that resulted in a poor 1.86 60'. Between runs I upped the boost a bit, now sitting at about 27psi (before my 12.33 run). I forgot to put this but on my last run the 12.33 before the trapps the car started to studder, so I got off it, hence the 110mph. I thought maybe too lean since I upped the boost and took some fuel out, so between 5K-7K I put it at about -8% kept the rest at -10%. Next run when I pulled the 1.86 60' it started to studder again right at 6K rpm, so I shut it down and cruised through with a 15.3 @ 68. I ran again, same settings but then same studder, again nice launch spun all wheels but hit a 1.83 60'. Again hits 6K and dies. I figure it's the same problem I had before, my clutch switch, damn tmo ecu. So now I know I have to replace that. Anyways, keep the settings the same and cleaned the switch a bit to get it to work. Next run was the strong, again only hit 1.80 60' but the car felt strong, top end only resulted in a 12.49 but at 114.87mph. So I leave everything the same, it feels strong, but the 60' is really hurting me. SO next run takes off hard, now the past two runs it hits 6K for a second then feels like it hits through, damn switch, but after I get past about 330' I hear a pop and the car dies. Lost a lower intercooler pipe, although I have hard pipes the part from the lower pipe to the j pipe is still the stock mesh crap. I'm looking to get something fabbed to replace that. All these good runs, I'm seeing about 2K hz karmen, which is about 200 above what I was seeing with the old turbo.
By the way, I have switched from a small 16g to a EvoIII 16g and O2 housing, the turbo and O2 are ported and the turbo clipped 15*. Either way I've made some progress and I'm happy, although I wanted that 11 sec slip so bad. Next year I'm going to drop my test pipe to see if maybe the 2.5" exhaust is becoming a restriction in my setup. Alright, well there it is, how my day went so I was a little disappointed, but the car is making big power, I went about 2 tenths faster and 3 mph faster then the old turbo, plus I'm happy I went about 114 although I know that I need at least 116-117 for an 11. Alright guys, well comment away haha. Also, I'm thinking of investing in DSMlink. I know I can tune pretty well, but after seeing all the Buick guys with much more complicated systems with more control I'm thinking I might go that way but who knows, everything is always more money. I'm going to replace those clutch switches and fab up that intercooler pipe and go from there. The old small 16g best run was a 12.04 @ 114 but on a really cold day, best I got on a normal day was a 12.48 @ 111.
