Frozen Caliper?

I'm doing the rear brakes on my 91 awd eclipse. Got the caliper and rotor off but when i went to push the piston back in with a C clamp it wouldnt go back in. It took me and my brother together to get it in so that its still out about an 1/2 inch. But i still dont have enough clearance to get the new pads in. Is my caliper frozen or am i doing something wrong? Shouldnt the piston go back in easier?

:thumbdown The Rear Brake Pistons THREAD BACK INTO THE FREAKING CALIPER!!!!!!

The Emergency Brake Mechanism requires you do that - You have to turn them with a special tool or fab something up... How is it you didn't notice this when you replaced the Quad Ring on the Piston? Or did you leave the 13 year old Quad Ring in there? I've posted this about a jillion times...

I did my rear brakes recently and i just used a set of needle nose and spun it likei was trying to tighten it andpushingit in at the same time. Mine went way in.

Well the caliper is probably damaged by now after forcing it in with a C clamp.

Enjoy your new calipers.

Get a Haynes while you're getting those, too.

Well the piston was actually rubbin on the rotor cause whoever did the brakes before me didnt put the pads in right. So either way the caliper was screwed. I've got a chiltons but nothing in there said anything about screwing the piston back in. The only reason i used a clamp to push it back in was a buddy of mine said that was the best way. Thanks for the help anyways.

I had the same problem,,the Haynes manual says turn them back it clockwise,with a pair of needle nose..with my 90 Fwd Laser,it worked..With my 91 awd tsi,rrrrrright,,,I had to use a pair of vises around the piston.Scratch the pistons up a little,it took a lot of forearm to turn those bitches.Took almost 2 1/2 hours to get my rear brakes done in 93 degree ,humid weather.THrowing tools,and everything,,you get the picture
