Hi,

I'm getting 98 gsx with little mode (16g turbo, apexi catback, hard pipe, greddy bov, etc). The car is currently tuned. However, it doesn't have FMIC and has a little hole in muffler. I'm thinking of replacing catback and install FMIC.

My question is, after install these parts, do you think that the car would need tune badly (I mean running so badly, that I could not drive and have to tow it to the shop to tune)? Or it would still run okay, but I could schedule to drive to the shop to have it tune later.

I don't know much about how much modification would take to require a tuning right away.

Any suggestion will be appreciated.

thanks

With the modifications that you are looking at doing, you will be alright without a tune. The modifications are not too extreme. Especially if you are just going to be running stock boost on a 16g. Although tunes are nice.

Assuming that it runs good now it will still run fine after those changes. How is the car tuned? Does it have an SAFC, ECMLink, or some other tuning device?

Hi,

I'm getting a 98 gsx with some little mod(e)? (16g turbo, apexi catback, hard pipe, greddy bov, etc). The car is currently tuned. However, it doesn't have a FMIC and has a little hole in the muffler. I'm thinking of replacing a catback and install a FMIC.

My question is, after I install these parts, do you think that the car would need tune badly (I mean running so badly, that I could not drive and have to tow it to the shop to tune)? Answer: No. Or it would still run okay, Depends on your definition of "okay". but I could schedule to drive to the shop to have it tune later.

I don't know much about how much modification would take to require a tuning right away. As soon as you start playing with bigger injectors, fuel pumps and boost... But of course, the sooner the better.

Any suggestion will be appreciated.

thanks

As for suggestion; be patient, do your maintenance, buy an aftermarket boost gauge and some tuning devices and learn how to tune before doing bigger mods or turning up the boost.

Besides that; if you want to learn more about the next parts you should instal you can read this Tech Guide: 2G 4G63t Upgrades - DSMtuners

Oh, and also, you mentioned you have a Greddy Bov, make sure that's recirculated! Good luck. :thumb:

thanks for all comments. the car is currently running fine like usual (no surge and sounds quiet). and yes, it has boost gauge and controller (currently set to lowest). So next question is, which FMIC is the most recommended for this setup.

oh, I will take a look at BOV again when I get the car here and let you know if it's recirculated.

thanks a ton.

As far as front mounts go there really is no perfect choice for everyone. From my stand point I would say that the ETS kits are among the best high quality ones you can get but you really will pay for that quality. As for good bang for the buck check out Punishment Racing.

Personally I have an ebay one and it is working great but I had to modify a lot of the piping it came with to work with my turbo. I also had to re-weld the bov flange on it as the fantastic china done welds weren't air tight.
