front axle center bearing

Does anybody know the part number for the driver side front axle center bearing? I cant find the part number anywhere. Is it true that it is only a dealer part?

any tips on how to pull the bearing out?

Id go used, junkyard. Why are you replacing it? It is OK for it to have a little play! JNZ can help you with that but as I said, not cheap.

Not for sure what bearing your talking about. Is it the wheel bearing? Or the one on the drivers side axle were it bolts to the back of the block?

Im hearing a high pitched sound when the cars speed exceeds 65 to 70 mph. The sound does not change when i put the car in neutral and rev the engine. It seems to be coming from the drivers side. Ive replaced the drivers side wheel bearing already and hence I think its coming from the center bearing (it goes into the drivers side intermediate shaft pictured above)

Give DSMGraveyard a call or send em a mssg here on tuners DSM Forums - View Profile: DSMGraveyardinc , that link I posted above should be the part you need. Not sure what it takes to install it (press fit?). If your looking for the whole intermediate shaft then a junkyard would be a good start. Double check your gear fluids. or maybe something whining in the wind? idk just thinkin..

yeah ive checked my tranny fluid but not the transfer case and rear diff fluid. they dont have the tell tale signs of a leak thats why I havent really checked. what would they sound like if the fluid was low? I just bought my dsm. its fully stock texas car....0 mods.

i'd hit the bearing (the one on the block) with some wd-40..just to see if it stops sqealing.
if it does for a little while. you know that thats your problem..you dont want to be tearing in to stuff thats not the problem..

Are you talking about the bracket bearing on the driver side axle?

If so you'll have to have it pressed out and the new one pressed in. Pay attention on how the old one comes out so you can put the new one in the same way.

I got a new one from JNZ for around $50 I think. I comes with 2 dust boots a new circlip and plug for the inside of the the outer axle if you need to replace it.

I just checked the center bearing and it does have a little play. How much play is normal?

Had mine out the other day and it had a little play too. I have another one. I'll give that a look tomorrow and see if it has any play in it. I never had any problems but since I had it out I haven't had the car above 55 again yet.

I just got the new bearing and it does have a slight bit of play when you move the inner bearing. will it get tighter when its installed in the axle?
