What are the pros and cons to each of these cams? Which would YOU put in your car? Ultimately, which one is the best and why?

I think you will find that this kind of question never gets a definative answer.

All of the above will gain power, but as far as your specific engine, its a toss-up which will make the most for the money. HKS is always a good bet because they are a reputable company with good products. Forced Performance cams are pretty good too from what I hear. You might want to also include Comp's 101200 cams, as they are in this same class.

I actually have a set of the Comp 101200's that I could sell you for $410 shipped. They were installed but never run in the car. I took them back out because I need to make some money to pay off some debts and take my eclipse back close to stock. PM or email me if you want them.

DKS cams are stock cams ground down to the same specs as the HKS cams. You just need to shim your lifters (I think it's your lifters, correct me if I'm wrong) and you've got a cam identical to HKS. It's probably what I'm going to do.

Also take a look at the brian crower cams, crower has been making cams for years. 272/272s for $315

If it were me, for the money, my pick is DKS or Brian Crower. HKS is just much more expensive

Moved to Newbie forum from the Bolt-On forum. This is a Cylinder Head-type topic, but it's not really an advanced question so I couldn't really move it to the Cylinder Head forum, and it's not a bolt-on topic if you read the forum descriptions.

I think you'll find that people have had success with all three. They're all very similar. It comes down to which company you feel more comfortable with. You'll find enough support for each that there will likely be no clear-cut winner when it comes to being the "best".

Awesome thanks for the help!

Correct me if I'm wrong, the 272/272 setup will take away some torque but significanlty increase the top end power? What exactly does everyone mean by top end (what mph/gear/rpm etc...) and is it really that noticible?

Going to the 16g already increased the topend from the t25 by like 10000x. It'll be exciting to see it peg over 100 even faster :rocks:

TSImonster I'll PM you when I get the cams if I'm still interested. I needa take care of a few more projects though. Thanks!

The lobes on these cams are different from stock by allowing the valves to stay open for longer, and allows more breathing in high rpm, so there for creates more power in the top end, yes like everything with power you must sacrifice something to get another, if you wanty top end, your bottom end will suffer some, if you want stump pulling TQ your top end wont be as tall. The HKSs and DKSs are the exact same specs, but DKS is by FFWD and half the price of the HKSs, Ive heard great things of Comp cams, you may want to look at a 264/272 cam set-up from DKS...or HKS. They will all net you the same power generally. But it all really comes down to personal preference. Also an added note, yes it is noticable, you will notice rpm's will climb more steadily in the high 6s-stock rev limiter.

FP cams are Comp cams. They're really nice. I installed them on my 14b and they made a world of difference up top. They lose some bottom end but when the turbo gets going it you can tell the difference.

blackGSX2g, since you've brought up the HKS/DKS 264/272 (fp1/fp2) I'd like to take the opportunity to take opinions on which combo I should go w/.

I'm running an evo316g w/ proper support (check profile). Some people are saying to run the 264/272 equivalents but some say to just go for the HKS/DKS 272/272 (fp2/fp2). What would you guys do and why?

I'm pretty sure I'm going w/ the FP solution if that makes a difference.

Also, I'm contemplating upgrading to a gt30r/equivalent in the far future but would be doing a lot of other things first. Plus, I do more than just the quarter mile (autox & track) and I'm not sure if I'm ready to give up the quick spool of the 16g for a harsh sudden kick in the ass at 4.5k from bigger applications. Anyway, people run amazing times w/ 16g's all the time. Plus I'd have to swap out the RnR system since it doesn't fit and the exhaust mani if I didn't go w/ an FP30. :barf: injectors and pump and afpr too...

I use the DKS cams no problems. You dont HAVE to shim them but you do a simple test and see if you need to.
