Saying someone should not call a reputable shop and ask about a turbo is just INSANE.... This is the biggest line of crap I have ever seen anywhere!

Just because you can assemble a turbo doesn't mean you should be recommending what kind of turbos people should be buying. Have you tried every combo? What turbos do you have personal experience with in tuning and running down the 1/4th mile? What makes you think your advice is better than, say, mine? What if I find a local shop to manufacture turbos for me and I start my own turbo shop? Am I all the sudden a genius on all turbos? Give me a damn break. There are a few shops I trust, but in general, calling a shop and listening to only them, doing no other research, to buy a turbo is just stupid. It's a blind choice. Sorry if I actually like to research a product rather than just asking the guy who's selling it to me. Calling a shop can help but it's not the only thing you should be doing.

Also, define "reputeable". There are some shops out there that some people think are reputeable that I think are ran by total scumbags with no brains. I don't think 80% of turbo shops are to be trusted. Look at the ones still selling the 17C and 19C as the "ultimate street turbo". Please. These are worst turbos you can buy. But when you have a bunch sitting on the shelf you may as well push them, right?

I didn't call any shops when I selected my turbo, I just chose one based on what I know. I looked over compressor maps, reviewed emphirical data, looked over what others had to say about it. Then I found a really good deal on it and couldn't pass it up.

But why don't you keep slandering me because I don't think every DSMer should be calling you, a turbo vendor, and asking what you think they should BUY FROM YOU. At least my opinions aren't totally 100% biased. Nobody can accuse what I say as being motivated by my business. Can you say that? I'm trying to give helpful advice... maybe you are trying to sell something. No way we can know.

Oh, and just because you guys mentioned it, the turbo I got is the very turbo Curt Brown used to run 135mph traps in his FWD. Not a duplicate. I have the actual Green he used.

{in my dsm drone voice}i think i am going to call glazer and ask him to sell me his turbo.......... so i can go...... as fast as he does.... i am a dsm drone

Once again, missing the entire point. It's a nice habbit you have. Would you not agree that the turbo Sean Glazer uses is capable of running 8s? So if I wanted to run 8s, wouldn't that turbo be a reasonable place to start? Yeah, we all know you need to know how to go fast but no amount of knowledge in the world is going to get a 14B in the 8s.

I totally recommend trying 3-4 different turbos. You learn as you go. That's what all the fast guys did. But most people are too cheap for that. They make a goal and only want one turbo that will help them meet that goal. So if the goal is 10.9 in the 1/4th, wouldn't you feel better knowing that the turbo you chose is proven to be capable of that? If that's the way you feel, what better way to find out than look at the times page?

Never EVER did I say the times page is the end all of turbo selection. Nobody did. It's a list of what turbos have done what. Nothing more. I fully recommend doing other research, looking at compressor maps, etc.

There is no one definitive way to choose a turbo. There are tons of rescources that can be used to make a choice. Ignoring the times page as a rescource is just silly.

Of course jdmawd has something against the classic DSMer (the one that knows all the interenet rescourcses and uses them: times page, dsm.org, vfaq.com etc.) he will say anything contrary just because. Newbies, be wary of his advice, most of it is the exact opposite of the norm just because he wants to be contrary to the rest of us because we don't like him.

Did I say I wanted to be as fast as Curt Brown? Can you do anything other than pick fights?

First off, I think you are way off base with your tone to me. Where do you get off talking to someone like this?

Wisemouth yes, wiseman, my ass.

Have you tried every combo? What turbos do you have personal experience with in tuning and running down the 1/4th mile?

Not that I owe you any explanation, so I will post to the people who like reading this drama.

DSM's I have owned and raced over the past 5 years.

95 TSI AWD
91 TSI AWD

About 10 misc dsm's.....

Turbos I have had on my personal cars....

t25, t28, small 16g, big 16g, tdo5 20g, t3/t4 many sizes and flavors.... Turbos I have installed on friends and customers cars...Far to many to list. I have run low 12's on a 16g car, high 13's on a t25 car, about 200 mid 11's on a 91 AWD car at almost 130 MPH... Do I know it all? NOPE... far from it.

Can I make a very fast DSM on a BUDGET? Damn right.

What makes you think your advice is better than, say, mine?

Oher than you are an idiot?

What if I find a local shop to manufacture turbos for me and I start my own turbo shop? Am I all the sudden a genius on all turbos?

NOPE, but year of playing with turbo cars helps. BTW, my first turbo car was 14 years ago... I was 15. It was a Renault.... Had a turbo car ever since. Thats what makes my advice sound.

There are a few shops I trust, but in general, calling a shop and listening to only them, doing no other research, to buy a turbo is just stupid. It's a blind choice.

Call someone who has done what you are trying to do, you may learn something.

Calling a shop can help but it's not the only thing you should be doing.

I agree, thats why I said I like the times page.....

Also, define "reputeable". There are some shops out there that some people think are reputeable that I think are ran by total scumbags with no brains.

If you can not define "repuetable yourself, I would have someone hold your hand.

I didn't call any shops when I selected my turbo, I just chose one based on what I know. I looked over compressor maps, reviewed emphirical data, looked over what others had to say about it. Then I found a really good deal on it and couldn't pass it up.

Good for you! You got a great turbo! And Curt is a hell of a guy, but I thought Jared bought that turbo.

But why don't you keep slandering me because I don't think every DSMer should be calling you

I by no means slander you on purpose. You bring it on yourself by making such dumb comments. If I cared about selling turbos so much, would I argue with you on here, in a public forum to prove a point? NOPE.

At least my opinions aren't totally 100% biased. Nobody can accuse what I say as being motivated by my business. Can you say that? I'm trying to give helpful advice... maybe you are trying to sell something. No way we can know.

Yea, if someone calls and ask about turbos, I do talk about my product. Sorry about that..... I should have them call somewhere else. This is ALL I DO, I do not have some night job, or work at Walmart... I work on peoples cars everyday and sell parts. If someone came to my house and bought a Green turbo and asked me to help tune his car, I would fricken help! LOL.....

I am probably the nicest guy you will never have a chance to know.

Once again, the discussion went down hill with people trying to discredit one another, and sarcastic remarks flying around like bullets. Participation in this type of thread really brings down your credibility (with me at least), so I would suggest to everyone, that you resist the temptation to strike back. It wouldn't last that long if nobody retaliates. This is really getting old.

Perfect example of what I'm talking about - this does nothing but provoke arguments. Anyone want to get on my bad side, post crap like this, taking cheap shots at what someone else had posted.

Sarcasm is only funny for so long.

Let's stop trying to discredit vendors - and vendors, just avoid this crap altogether.

I feel I have to add something here.

This is the orginal posters questions

what size tial wg do you all reccomend?
what are you running?
how is it mounted? (id like to maintain my hrc 02 eliminator dp)
what do you think of this setup as far as the numbers im looking for?

He already said he was getting a green. that lastest 1 post where someone suggested a different turbo. Then people talked on-topic for all of 8 more posts . then went 2 and 1/2 pages of crap. If someone asks a question you answer it. Is it really that tough?
