Found a great product, anyone by this? Smooth Dash cover

Streetbeatcustoms :notgood: I got ripped off by them for a air intake. They kept the 56 bucks from me  .

Looks like they could be made of fiberglass. IMO, not that great looking. I like the look already of the stock dash. It would be more for a show car, just to have another custom piece.

ehh.. At least they offer free shipping on it. I wonder how well they fit. Hopefully they can consistantly produce a better fitting product than that of the body kit manufacturers.

Yeah, I agree; I would never modify my dash either. But it is a great alternative to people that are afraid to paint their dash.

Indeed a bit pricey. They look to me rather nice and made of ABS. http://www.nuimage1.com/catalog2_c52192.html

Note to the thread starter. When you're looking at new products online they are usually just retailers. Try to get the manufacturer's name and bounce them through google. You'll usually come up with both the manufacturer's website to get specs and also reviews, maybe not for your particular application, but their product quality in general. :thumb:

i've seen a couple of these in person on an s10 and a fullsize chevy at shows, they look "OK" you can definitely tell the difference between a smoothed painted dash and one with one of these covers, but they didnt look bad. In fact the one in the fullsize hadnt even been painted yet and still looked decent. Not a bad alternative for someone who A. doesnt want to have to pull their dash. B. isnt a badass at body work, smoothing one of these dashes requires a lot of work, knowing how much flexing agent to use, etc, etc, so that it doesnt crack. Also i hear a lot of people complain about glare after painting their dash, this would allow you to remove it if you would like. So on a "coolness factor" not quite as cool/good looking as a smoothed dash, but not too bad looking and a little more practical.

Hi just wondering if anyone has gotten or seen anything about a custom dash cover. if so how does it look? can you see when it is on that it is covering up your old dash? cause it seems prety nice to cover up my old grey dash. if anyone has any input ot has seen one installed or on their car etc please let me know, seems like it might be an easy way out of replacing the dash and all.

This is the one i am talking about.

You want to waste $355 for an "easy way out of replacing your dash"?
You could pickup a nice clean dash for less than a hundred dollars and still have cash left over to buy your self a big "carbon fiber" wing.
The dash is not hard to replace, with basic hand tools it can be done in an hour.

please be sure you are doing sufficient searches while aboard this site. The below is fairly recent:

That's just some commentary about it. You'll see in there I referred him to squidskins which makes a replacement for fairly inexpensive. It depends on where you're going with the car.

If you just REALLY can't stand the look of the dash, you may as well try it, but I couldn't justify it unless my dash was majorly F'd up with cracks, etc.

good luck :thumb:

Edit: As (now) stated above. Replacing the dash is fairly easy and quick to do. You could pick up a used black dash for around $150-250, and it'd be pretty easy to change.

ok sounds good, will ###### just go with a black oem dash. heard those were a real pain in the ass to take out though. if it doesnt take too long than i will def do it that way. Also where coul i get a gauge pod mount for the dash? anyone know? i dont really want to have them going up the window side like most of them seam to be.

I think i will pass on the carbon fiber wing as well!!! i'm not looking for ricey stuff just thought it might make it cleaner, as my grey one is a bit scuffed up and all. Anyone have any pics of different gauge clusters and pods mounted on the dash? or that can be purchased from an online vendor? let me know.

It's not too much of a pain to remove. You DO NOT need to remove the steering wheel to get the dash off. And you'd be well served to get a buddy to help you get it off. It's easy to put it on by yourself though. I don't know where to get those pods, but I recently made some panels to replace my A/C vents, radio, etc. out of sheets of CF from machV.com. Just need a dremmel, CF, and patience. Make your own stuff.

Ok sounds good, thanks alot for the help. I was told i had to take the steering wheel and column and all off, was told it would take about 4 hours to get off, so seemed not really worth it. When i get some time some day i will give it a try. I usually make all my own fiberglass parts and all, just been real busy these days so was trying to find stuff to just buy and attach in. But i guess i could find some time to make a custom fiberglass gauge pod of some sort.

if anyone has seen different gauge bezel mounts and pods please let me know. thanks.

Yeah, I know in the Tech-Articles area, the thread says to remove the wheel, but... You just need to get it off at the right angle, which is why 2 people would be easier. Also, take out the front seats completely. have your buddy sit in the back passenger-side seat to hold the passenger side of the dash up, as you work it around the wheel. You'll understand when you try to do it...

You do need to take off the plastic around the column though, but that's all of 45seconds. I removed my dash, removed all the HVAC components and controlls under it, removed the insulation from the firewall, installed my clutch-cut wire (for DSMLink) Re-wired my A/F and Boost gauges, removed the ducting that's connected to the underside of the dash, removed all the stereo equipment and antenna wire, and replaced the dash (though didn't get it bolted back in b/c I was out of daylight) in one day. So, don't believe all the horror stories about taking it off. Oh, and all of that was alone, EXCEPT actually wiggling the dash out. You should be able to do a basic replacement in just a couple of hours.

It says there are 3 gauge pods. I only see 2. Also it says you just slip over the current dash. The only problem I'd have with that is if they compensated the mold for that. It might probably be better to remove the old dash and put in the new one in its place.

It's made from ABS plastic and yes it says 3 but only shows two. Also might want to ask if it's for 52mm or 60 mm gauges. If you buy it let us know the fitment how ever I would never spend that money of something like this.

yea well im switchin my interior to black, and it is almost impossible to find someone willing to sell there black 2g dash, so i figure i get this dash and paint it the same color as my car and it shouldnt look to bad. so if i cant find a black dash i will probably be purchasing this.

Problem with that is that the cover probably isn't structurally strong enough to support itself, so removing the dash might not be an option.

Also, I wonder if it fits tightly. If you don't have to drill, how is it secured? Double stick tape? Epoxy? Chewing gum?

I'd e-mail then and ask how thick it is and how to secure it.

Why would you pay that much for a dash overlay that only allows you to use 2 gauges? You could just get the piece that many companies make to fit there. I bet the fitment on that piece over the dash is probably pretty shitty too. Most of those types of things that look like great ideas always have horrible fitment issues.
