Just wondering if the baffles were removed for the drilling and welding of the AN fittigns i see on some of you guy's crank vent systems. I'm about to start working on my own and was wondering if i should cut the baffles out since i've see a few cases where the little "rivets" fall off and kill engines.

Anyone have pics or advice????

Take the baffles out. You will NEED to clean the aluminum around the PCV vents VERY WELL before attempting to weld. If there are hydrocarbons there when you strike the arc, you will get splatter, and a VERY sloppy bead.

When you are done, replace the baffles, and tig some spot welds in to keep them in place.

I did'nt remove the baffles, it all turned out just fine. I welded a -8 bung at the pcv, and side nipple. Mine was hot tanked first so there was very little sticky oil in the baffles for the shavings to stick to. I just took the extra time and effort to make sure it was all clean after drilling.

Thanks fellas, I will have them either acid dipped or just cleaned real good with acetone and a sandblaster before starting the weld. I understand how clean AL must be to weld, but i've heard horror stories about things that have oil on them already LOL

I had some welded bungs on mine at first. If they are going to be removed frequently, the threads WILL mess up. I drilled out the holes and tapped them with 3/8npt. Summit sells the -8 to 3/8npt adapters. If the threads get messed up, take them out and replace them. Just my .02
