For those running thermals what setup are you using?

I have a thermal exhaust and I am kinda dissappointed by the 2 inch bottle neck it goes down to to hook up to the cat. What kind of exhaust setups are you guys using with your thermals. I was thinking of cutting it where the exhaust gets small and weld on a 3 inch stainless section and get a 3 inch cat and downpipe.

I have an A'pexi N-1 downpipe. I had an exhaust shop chop off the restriction and then build a 3" to take its place. I'm running no cat BTW.

Ya i know alot of guys do run catless just looking to build somethign street legal and no money light. So I guess you suggest doing the cutting and welding.

I ended up cutting mine off and welding a 3" flange on to mate up with my 3" tp and dp. I know you might be dissapointed but you have to look at it from the manufacturers standpoint. They designed a bolt on system and without the small flange, they would get a lot more complaints from people that have to have their system modified to mate up to their stock components.

I just ordered a 3" O2 eliminator downpipe from RNR with the 3" high-flow cat option that I'll match with my thermal (with the cutting and 3" pipe and flange rewelding). This setup should kick a$$es.

USe the extreme motorsports downpipe and cat its designed for the thermal (SLIP FIT) your supposed to cut that neck off and then slide the catbak over the cat then slide the cat onto the DP and clamp it down mines working fine :)

i have the rnr o2 elim. 3 inch downpipe with 3 inch test pipe along with my thermal, i could never be happier, i almost think it sounds like my friends ducati, just louder. only problem is it might help with my boost creep a bit with my evo 3 turbo, but that will be fixed this summer.

wait now that i think of this how is this gonna work. does the extreme motorsports dp eliminate the o2 housing. and if I cut the flange and the 2 inch section of my thermal its not gonna be long enough to reach the cat and if the cat is moved back farther wont it mess with the o2 sensors?

I bought the cat. elim dp from RRE. It's long enough to where you can cut off the cat back where it starts to neck down. They also included a 3" flange, so just weld that on and you're set. Or you can buy the shorter dp and get the test pipe or hi-flow cat. Either option is longer so that it'll bolt up to the new flange. :thumb:

well, i had an exhaust shop do mine, but just measure the section you cut off, take it to and exaust shop, or do it your self, get a 3 inch flange, and weld it to i think 3 inch pipe about one or two inch longer, and make it to a slip fit onto your thermal exhaust, and bolt it to your cat, or whatever you are planning on getting. just replace the amount of pipe you are taking off of the catback part.

alright i guess I'll just cut the bottomneck off and get some stainless piping and flange and I'll weld the section on and get a 3 in ch hi flow cat and 3 inch dp. What cats do you suggest and i wanna get a dp that does replace my o2 housings, what brand to go with?
