For those running external oil coolers, what size lines do you run.

I am going to purchase the MachV external oil cooler housing, however I haven't found enough information regarding the hose size from people running them, to feel comfortable making the purchase. So this thread is for anyone that runs external oil coolers to provide the size line they use from the filter housing to the cooler itself.

Thanks to all that reply,

Brew :talon:

p.s. feel free to include fittings sizes or any other components needed

Thats a good link Lupe, thank you for sharing that. So far from the replies it seems as I expected; Some run 8, some run 10. The reason I started this thread was to try an determine which lines would be ideal for a 2liter 450 hp engine, and when they would need to be upgraded to a larger line. I've been doing more reading and researching and started to answer some of my own questions.

1. I would think that a stroked block would qualify for -10 an lines.
*Reason being that more displacement, more area to cover, flow would need to be increased to compensate.

2. I would think that climate along with driving conditions are a big consideration when choosing line size.
*Reasons are obvious, if average temperature's are 90+ in summer months, and you drive your car hard, keeping the oil moving through a larger cooler is a huge concern.

I qualify for neither of these conditions, well maybe sometimes the weather is above the ideal condition for hard driving, but not enough to warrent the jump to larger lines.

Like I said these are only my ASSumptions, I am still anxious to hear everyones input as to what they feel the correct setup should be. Even those that feel an external oil cooler is unnecessary, all opinions are welcome.

I have a flex a lite oil cooler that I plan on putting in when I pull my motor out. I dind't really want to buy a new oil filter housing, but havent found where I am going to tap the lines from yet. Any thoughs on were to tap for oil besides getting a new filter housing?

-8an is the most common size for aftermarket oil coolers. But honestly, -6an is even sufficient. -8an is the size of my choice tho.

Thanks everyone for your insight. Tmizer that thread was, well lets just say I got more than I could ever need out of that thread. Wish I would have found that on my own, but somehow it got overlooked.

Once again thank you for the direction,
