For those not aware, there is a class-action lawsuit settlement against palm for users of m100/m105/m125 that have problems. Specifically:

...models m100, m105, and m125 were defective in that a user who followed Palm's instructions during the battery change process could lose data in the handheld unit, and that Palm allegedly committed unlawful business practices in the way it communicated and/or omitted to communicate and disclose certain facts and circumstances to its customers in connection therewith

Some of you out there use these devices with data logging software (I use pocketlogger myself personally), and have problems with the device. (If a battery is out more then 5 seconds, it loses memory on mine, making battery changing a tricky error-prone process).

Through the settlement, you can get your unit replaced, just fill out the claim forms. The deadline for final claim is February 22, 2006.

This is good info to have, thank you! This should possibly be a sticky. I have Palm M-100 and I actually thought all of them were like that, because they were so old, they just lost all info when the batteries were replaced. Infact, I have changed my batteries in 5 sec, one at a time, and it still lost the info. :thumb:

Yeah, I searched to see if it was in any other threads but didnt see anything.

Its a highly annoying problem (especially with pocketlogger which makes you re-register the code every time you do a hotsync restore).

Supposedly due to defective capacitors or something.

My technique is to use the battery cover to pry the positive edge of the battery up while pulling it out and _sliding_ a new one its place. Works *most* of the time. (Sometimes my fingers fumble around a bit too much.) Its actually less then 5 seconds before the memory blanks, probably more like 3.

I usually keep a spare set of rechargeable batteries in the car with me at all times. (And rotate them out for recharging.)
