You won't have to mess with the ECU at all. just put it on

yep just run the piping correctly short route or long route, your ECU won't care
only time messing with the intercooler would require messing with the ECu is is you went GM MAF with blow-thru

No but if you have an EM you can extract more power from your setup. Possibly lean it out more and add more timing and etc. due to the cooler charge from the new fmic core.

If you need a fmic, you must have and aftermarket turbo...So If your running enough boost that your smic is heatsoaking then your gonna need a way to tune your car anyways...

Most common I guess for EM would be a 95 eprom ecu and ecmlink, a 98/99 ecu with ecuflash (will also have to wire in reflash plug for 97 i think?), or something like a SAFC (whether it be 1, 2 or NEO)

And youll also need something to log with so you can make sure of what youre changing.
ecmlink logs i believe, or you can Pocketlogger, EVOSCAN, maclogger etc... these all require certain cables and some sort of device (palm or laptop depending on which route you take)
There are also standalone loggers too you can chose from but they usually are fairly pricey.
From what Ive gathered from reading a ton of info on this site the ability to log KNOCK counts is something you should make sure you can do.

A wideband 02 setup if you dont have one yet would also be a pretty good idea so you can monitor and log A/F ratios and get a good tune.

I vote ECM link also. But do some researching on this site, read up and decide which EM is best for you and your budget.
