I'm not exactly sure what nut your talking about. However, if it is one that bolts the manifold to the head yes its very important. Or if its the stud on the 02 housing thats equally important. Without them your likely to have an exhaust leak and thats not a good thing when you got a turbo. Also, as far as the lower heat shield goes its not as important as the upper and you can probably get away without it but having it there isnt going to hurt anything either.

yeah, that's the one. the far right lower one that is almost impossible to get to, i've tried all sorts of swivel sockets and just CAN NOT get in there. The only solution I can see is removing the power steering bracket that is in the way.

That intercooler is just fine. Full spool at 2600rpm is pretty damn good, actually. I normally don't get full spool that early on a B16G.. generally between 3500 and 4K.

You don't use a 2G MAS with a MAF-T. You use a GM MAS, and it has to be mounted in blowthrough orientation. Which it isn't, from those pictures. It'd be on the UICP after the BOV, if it were.

More importantly, the 1G 'bov' is actually a CBV. The difference is that it's open under vacuum (read: at idle and on decelleration) and allowing unfiltered air in... and if you AREN'T using a proper MAF-T/GM MAS in blowthrough (as it appears in that picture), unmetered air as well. Meaning running even more stupidly lean at idle and on decel than our engines normally do... very likely dangerously lean. Not to mention letting any bugs/dirt/rocks/fluids that get into your engine bay be sucked directly into the intake system... either right into your MAS, or directly into the engine itself if you aren't running blowthrough.

Very, very unwise. You would be smart to replace or recirculate that ASAP, for the health and longevity of your car.

PS- I left the lower right manifold nut off before. An exhaust leak developed and roasted my timing belt cover, warping and bubbling it until it contacted the belt, eventually destroying it. Thankfully I caught it before the belt snapped, and replaced the belt covers and belt, and put on that nut properly. It's NOT something you want to ignore, when it can do over $700 (parts alone) in damage if that kind of leak develops. My power steering pump only didn't get roasted because I don't have one; swapped over to the manual steering rack instead of dealing with the hassles of a leaky system.

I will go ahead and purchase one, my friend might sell me his cause he wants to get rid of his GST, where else can i purchase one anyway?

You can purchase a MAF-T from basically any vendor that supports this site. As far as the MAS, that can be purchased off a GM vehicle from any junkyard. You'll have to search for it, but there's a sticky or a thread somewhere, that has a list of all the GM vehicles that had a 3" MAS, and some had 3.5 inch. If you can find the sensor from a junkyard, and test it with a digi multimeter to make sure it's good, you can save a few bucks there.
