What is the Biggest FMIC you can put in a 1g without modifying the car.

And what is the Biggest FMIC you Have put in a 1g with modifying the car to make it fit and what are those modification you have to do.

If you could include the brand you used that would be helpful.

I haven't had any experience with a front mount so I did not know there was any modifying you had to do to the car but I guess there is some. Doesn't look to bad though.

Is the intercooler shown in those pics probably as big one as you can fit? on the VRSF FMIC Install Qs Link

I'm running a 20G right now but plan to upgrade to a bigger turbo later (not sure witch yet) I was trying to see how big I can go with my intercooler. Maybe bigger is not better

Depend on your goals mines now is a over 10 inches high and I think 3.5 inches thick, same cutting I used for my pr core, I like it hell it was free with the car.

Biggest is not always best... (read "most efficient")

If best is what you really mean, then look into the biggest ETS or Buschur Racing (garrett based) cores.

They cost a lot, but they have been proven to be significantly more efficient.

FYI,
I have the 3" ETS race core. I run a 20g. I asked ETS how much intercooler I would need if I stayed under 500 AWHP. They said this one.

My iats are damn close to ambient and drop from wherever they started on every pull.

Pretty much all fornt mounts are going to require you to trim some metal from the car on the sides of the radiator to allow the piping to fit thru. Most kits labeled street kits will not require crash beam cutting. Anything labeled race will require crash beam cutting or removal. Most kits street or race will also require some bumper cover trimming. Also most kits will require removal or modification of a/c lines if you want to keep a/c. When buying an intercooler its one of those parts you shouldnt cheap out on. There most certainly is a difference in performance between a name brand kit and less expensive kits. As mentioned ets is a great kit and the price reflects performance/fit/finish, they arent gouging. If you plan on going faster as time goes on there is no reason to buy a street kit, buy a race kit so you only have to buy it 1 time. going bigger than you need now will have little to no noticeable side affects on performance now. Little turbos spool so fast you wouldnt hardly notice.

Efficiency, size, and price are of nonlinear correlation. They're all made of aluminum and mostly bar and plate so they can flow well. Remember you only get air flow when there is a pressure difference. So just because you have 10 square feet of front mount intercooler core visible doesn't mean your doing it right. What are your goals? What kind of racing do you do?

Here are pictures of the Thee Mods you would normally have to do for a front mount. I hope the pictures help. One is the left side of the radiator support, one is the right side of the radiator support and the other is the crashbar cutout so the intercooler will fit and you still be able to attach the top of the front bumper. I am currently doing this mod with a VRSF short route kit and I will try to post a picture of it also. This is what I am doing - '90 Talon TSI AWD w/20g, 3" exhaust, K&N Filter.

You should get a core from eBay. It's well under your budget. The step up from stock is great but the next step up to ultra exotic or expensive air to air heat exchangers is very slight.

I'm all about cutting it up to fit it in if I have to I just don't want to go out and buy the most expensive fmic just because its big

can I get anything decent around the $500 range.

Here are some links to intercoolers in your price range. If the link doesnt work just copy and paste it into your browser

Punishments 1g kit

PUNISHMENT RACING FMIC KIT: 1990-94 ECLIPSE/TALON ****ON SALE**** - Punishment Racing

Vrspeed factory (even though they hate us ROFL)

VRSF 1G DSM Front Mount Intercooler Kit FMIC 90-99 Eclipse & Talon Turbo 1G DSM

ETS which is the best imo
ETS Mitsubishi Eclipse 1G DSM 7" Street Intercooler 1990-1994

Most of these companies sell the intercoolers as a core and as a complete kit with piping. Cutting the bumper isnt a big deal. If you have acess to a grinder, reciprocating saw, Hell even a nice set of torches would work for the steel.

I guess I was the lucky one, I had access to a plasma cutter. Went through that crash bar like butter, the only pain was the support brackets INSIDE the bar but it went right through those too once I could get to them. :thumb:
