Ok so i bought the core off of this site (dsmtuner) thats always on it. You may have seen it its selling for like $300 and both the inlets are on the bottom as opposed to the common one on the bottom one on the top that i see most DSM's with. Anyways, right now i have 2.5 in upper and lower intercooler piping from extreme motorsports on the car. I was wondering if i did the piping myself (which i have and my dad's shop can bend for me) would that work? Could i just coupling the new piping after it being bent to the existing piping that way i wont have to do nearly as many bends?? Will this still flow well? Thanks Guys :dsm:
 
You can make your own piping very easily. It's not difficult to do at all. Having you dad bend it though, I'm not sure. I don't want to make assumptions, BUT I do assume your dad does not have a mandrel bender because of their price tag. If it's a compression style bender, then I'd stay away. It will press in the pipe where it bends it. So you'll have 2.5" piping, but it will shrink to maybe 2" in the curves, which pretty much sucks. What you can do is hop on RRE's or JCWhitney's site and get yourself some pre bent mandrel bends. Cut them to size, and weld em together. That's how most people make their own kits. That is my recommendation.

holy crap, thats heaven....have him build your exhaust,intake and all that fun stuff :thumb:

And since you have access to a mandrel bender you should short route the piping.
 
Ha, that's why I didn't wanna assume, but I did anyway. Sorry bout that, but you are one lucky son, that's for sure. Anyway, to route it the short route, it will be very easy. Starting at the Throttle Body, keep your stock 45* TB Elbow on there. Then do a 45* downwards so it begins to angle downwards and passes over the tranny. Another 45* to angle it back parrallel with the ground and pointing towards the front again. And a 90* off the end tank to meet that last 45* bend. On the other side, well just 2 90* bends. One off the inlet to point towards the rear. Then another 90* to point it towards the turbo. Then some straight piping, and a 90* High Pressure coupler to mate the pipe to turbo. That's how mine was routed. Good luck man.
 
One thing i didn't think about was to ask what turbo you're running. THe way I todl you would work with a turbo with an outlet facing down, 20g style. If you have a t25, youll need a u-bend to get the piping going towards the driver side after the turbo outlet. If it's a 16g, you can use the same piping method as what I said for the 20g style, but you'll need a J-shaped pipe to go down and meet the piping. Hope that helps, sorry I don't have pictures.
 
And do yourself a favor if you're building your own piping and bead the ends of the pipes to help keep the connectors from blowing off.... it's a pain in the ass sometimes...
 
What do u mean "bead"? Also, i just realized something....if i short route the piping what am i gonna do about the upper intercooler pipe that has my BOV on it???!!?
 
Beading the pipes means placing a "bead," or small line (like a line of elmer's glue, for instance) of jb weld, or whatever you've got that won't break off, on the end of the pipe. This way, when you slip the coupler over the end of the pipe, you can clamp it down on the opposite side of the bead, and the clamp will be tight enough not to squeeze over the raised bead.

If you lose the UICP you have now in your short route piping, then yes, you will have to relocate the bov.
 
How do i relocate it? Do i have to fab my own piping with flange and the extension to the BOV??? or can i just buy that piece??
 
instead of short routing it, you can just route 2 90* bends to meet with your UIC pipe you already have. Just put one 90* off the outlet of the fmic pointing to the rear. Then a 90* pointing up, going right to where your current UIC pipe is. Make sense? Then you can keep everything how it is. It's not short route, but it will still work just fine. That is how I am setup.

Here's a dumb little picture of how I was saying you could rout it so you still use your UIC Pipe, hope that helps. Take care.
