ok so when i bought my gst it only came with one fan, one of the fans was removed because the I/C piping after my j pipe doesn't give it enough space. In the next few weeks im installing a new AC compressor (it will be getting hot soon) and i want to know if it will be ok with one fan or not? Im looking to buying me a new FMIC kit and if possible can you guys give me a link to a good one from ebay that will allow me to fit both fans in it.

Thanks, Abe

yea i was looking into them but my budget is tight right now bro, i already have the fan missing and since im getting a new FMIC i rather just get a kit that will allow me to run both fans, if i can run my AC with just one fan then ill do that

You could run it with just one fan but with the FMIC installed your under hood temps will go up and I recommend that you run 2 especially if your running an AC. I have the setup in my DSM 14b/w J pipe slim fans and FMIC also a 170 thermastat.

yea thats what im afraid of, i know it wont overheat on me because when i drive it it usually stays running, not much traffic here, but i rather get me a good ebay fmic kit with the piping allowing it to give enough space for my other fan, im running 14psi and in the future if i plan to increase it it will be around the 18psi range so ebay I/C's should work

With A/C I would definitely run both fans and I would wire them up like factory. The man fan is wired to the thermoswitch and comes on when the switch reaches 185* (which is usually more like 200* at the actual coolant temp sensor). THe A/C fan comes one at different speeds depending on a variety of different conditions. For instance, on a 1g:
  • AC switch OFF, Thermo Switch OFF, Cooling fan OFF, AC fan OFF
  • AC switch OFF, Thermo Switch NO, Cooling fan HIGH, AC fan OFF
  • AC switch ON, Thermo Switch OFF, Cooling fan LOW, AC fan LOW
  • AC switch ON, Thermo Switch ON, Cooling fan HIGH, AC fan HIGH
Also I would try to keep the stock fans if they will fit, at least the radiator fan. The slim fans don't flow nearly as well as the stock ones.

Also with a FMIC, it would greatly help your cooling temps to make some ducting from the intercooler to the radiator.

You can run a 12" slim fan on the pass side, and get a smaller say 10" fan for the other side. Personally I deleted the AC from my car, but I can still fit a 2nd 12" slim fan with my LICP in place. I have plenty of room. Mainly due to the diameter of the mandrel bend, it is not tight enough to my rad to allow me to be that tight with it.

If you get an aftermarket rad, it will cool better too. Personally I have had issues with mishimoto on fitment on other platforms, but thats me. I prefer Megan for radiators, and as for a FMIC, an ebay one will work for you until you start making much larger HP goals. Generally the biggest issue with an ebay fmic is efficiency and pressure drop from side to side. Just do your research and figure out what is within your budget. Then build accordingly. Stay away from anything mechanical from ebay however. No turbo's as more people have issues with them than great success.

yea thats what im wanting to do, like i said i just bought me the fan not installed but the I/C pipe doesn't give it room to fit in, so what im looking for is a different fmic setup (ebay if possible) that will work with my jpipe, any suggestions to which fmic?

The stock fans are one of the best fans for our cars. I fit my fmic in there but trimed the shroud and fans cause it was hitting the jpipe. You can get a vrsf fmic, I think they work around the fans. ETS is the only one that makes a jpipe "made" to fit around the fan. I would try to stay away from ebay stuff.

im not 100% sure which i/c i have but im pretty sure its an ebay and its held up well its just leaking a little under boost because i hit a deer a while back and it dented some fins, i can almost garantee its this i/c 27"X6.75"X2.5" ALUMINUM FMIC BAR&PLATE FRONT MOUNT TURBOCHARGER INTERCOOLER | eBay

i can just buy this core and pop it into place but my problem is i want to run AC when it is time, anybody out there ran their AC with 1 fan w/o any problems?

fans are dirt cheap coming from the j-yard. Shouldn't be a problem obtaining a fan. I run an ebay fmic, long route, soon to go short. it works well for a 16g. currently have 2" piping.

well i already have the fan, i just need to see if you guys know any fmic that would work and will allow both fans to be installed, preferably an ebay one since im not trying to get crazy hp numbers

OK, what about running 2 ac fans? Would they fit with my PR kit on a downfiring turbo(no jpipe)?
I've still got a couple weeks til dipshit machinist finally finishes engine and ive got like 3 sets of fans laying around. I was hoping to just dremel the stock fans and make them fit. I sure hope thats possible, cause i know theyre better flowing fans than any slim fan i can buy.
Even the ac fan would flow a ton if i had to insert it on the passenger AND driver side right?
