Flywheel, now or later?

Ok here’s the problem…

I’m buying an ACT2600 with Street disk for my 98 GSX. I also want to buy a Fidanza flywheel at the same time so I can install them both at the same time. I have a 7-bolt so obviously I would need a 7-bolt flywheel. Only problem with that is I am going to buy a 6-bolt pretty soon and slowly build it up to bulletproof standards with spare cash I have, but it’ll be on an engine stand for a long time and definitely won’t see the GSX till it’s finished. Anyway, I’m wondering if it would make more sense to hold off on the flywheel and buy it later for the 6-bolt soon before it goes in the car.

Considering where I would want the 6-bolt to be before it goes in I’m expecting it to take well over a year before being close to going in my car. I’m looking for input from anyone who has a lightened flywheel or Fidanza to maybe explain how much of an upgrade it is, and if it falls into the “You must have now!” category. My goals for the 7-bolt are pretty modest, I’m hoping for HP in the high 200’s or low 300’s on just boost, bolt-ons, and a future Evo16G. I’m basically going to boost my 7-bolt till it goes out on me, then drop in the built 6-bolt. My goals for the 6-bolt are quite a bit higher, I want to build the 6-bolt to be able to handle upwards of 500hp, but based on my limited knowledge of tuning and turbos I’m aiming for mid 300’s at wheels with a bigger turbo realistically. Back to the original question; should I save the flywheel for the 6-bolt, or buy them for both engines and try to sell the 7-bolt one later?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Why spend so much money on building your 7 bolt? Why not just keep the 7 bolt stock for now and put your money into a 6 bolt? You'd have it in your car quicker, and save yourself a ton of cash.

Thanks for the replies

Yeah I'm basically going to leave the 7-bolt stock, just bolt ons mods and leaving the internals alone. All the mods I've installed so far are able to migrate over to the 6-bolt when it goes in. I'm trying to keep that in mind with everything I buy because I know I'm not keeping the 7 bolt.

I'll reuse my stock flywheel, thanks guys.
